Caus of Global Warming

Global warming is the increa in the average temperature of the earth’s

near-surface air and oceans since the mid-20th century. According to the 2007 Fourth

Asssment Report, global surface temperature had incread by approximately 0.74

degrees Celsius. Global warming could give ri to many adver effects to human

life and ecology, even the extinction of many creatures. Thus, it is high time that we

realized the caus of this phenomenon. The caus of global warming can be roughly

divided into natural one and man-made ones. Man-made caus include

overpopulation, industrialization, and the lack of undertaking responsibilities of

governments.

Firstly, the natural climate changes bring about a warm environment. According

to Xinhua News Agency, meteorologists revealed that the climate system of the earth

is undergoing an natural change characterized by global warming. Global climate has

fluctuated since 10,000 years ago, alternated by warm and cold periods regularly,

which is influenced by the shape of earth’s revolving orbit. Since the middle of the

19th century the orbit has been turning from elliptical to round. Therefore, the distance

between the sun and the earth is reducing so that much more heat is radiated from the

sun to the earth.

Secondly, human activities contribute a lot to global warming, becau of the

large amount of carbon dioxide being created. Carbon dioxide is the gas belonging to

greenhou gas leading to greenhou effect, which is a main cau of global

warming. Carbon dioxide and the other greenhou gas absorb radiation heat from

the sun and keep it from running out of the atmosphere, warming up the earth’s lower

atmosphere and surface. Overpopulation comes first in man-made caus. In the

conquence of better life conditions and medical progress, global population has

boomed at a staggering rate. The greater the population, the larger the amount of

consumption of food, raw materials and in turn, the higher emission of carbon dioxide.

More livestock which relea large amounts of carbon dioxide, are being raid to

meet people’s increasing need of food. In addition, as people need wood for human

activities such as making furniture, deforestation is becoming rious. Less

plantations reduce the absorption of carbon dioxide, further more causing the

imbalance of ecological system and decreasing the ability of earth to adjust itlf, and

tho are worning the global warming situation. Besides, human beings are a large

group creating carbon dioxide through respiration.

Industrialization is the cond man-made cau resulting in global warming.

Since the first industrial revolution of the 19th century, people have stepped into an

age of machines. Whether in industrialized nations or emerging nations, cars and

machines are made in mass-productions, who emissions including various

greenhou gas such as carbon dioxide, methane, nitrous oxide, etc. Statistics show

that since cars have been invented, the concentrations of carbon dioxide and methane

have incread by 36% and 148% respectively. On the other hand, mushrooming

factories burn a lot of fossil fuels to obtain energy and support their production,

producing about three-quarters of the increa in carbon dioxide over the past 20

years. To pursue economic growth and high standards of living, more and more

factories have been built, among which exist a large portion of factories living on over

consumption of fuel. If not controlled effectively, the situation may get wor.

Lastly, an unwillingness of most countries’ governments to cooperate to control

the situation is an important factor. Global warming is an international problem in

scope, and an international effort is required to solve the problem. However, many

difficulties are in the way of collaboration. Many governments try to shirk their

country’s responsibilities of reducing the emissions to be exempt from energy

conrvation and economic sacrifice. Becau individual nations will act according to

their short-term motives and lf-interest, it is hard for them to compromi and make

sacrifices to reach a final agreement. Thus, many problems of global warming still

remain to be solved.

In conclusion, global warming results from various caus which consist of

natural reason and man-made reasons. Natural climate changes are creating a warmer

environment for the earth, and overpopulation and industrialization are the main

resources of greenhou gas, intensifying the status quo greatly. In addition, it

appears that an international cooperation is needed to deal with global warming.
