父母给女儿的信英文范文篇一
Dear daughter,
Though not knowing how you will react when receiving this
letter, I do want to tell of my unfeigned thoughts. First of all,
you’re my only child, the one I love most and clot to me in
the world. Your birth is like the sunshine in my life. Cute and lovely,
you’re an angel the god gives me. Since then, I made up my
mind to train you as a distinguished person. I hope you can
understand my ideas.
Firstly, grade is of vital importance. Why I force you to get a
high score? The colleges admit talents bad on scores. To be a
civil rvant, you ought to pass the exam with a good grade. The
society is fiercely competitive and people are measured by the
score everywhere. If intending to take up an occupation, you
must get an excellent mark in the entrance exam. Otherwi,
while you have the ability, you have no chance to show it. Thus,
the study is necessary for you.
Even though I emphasize the esntiality of grade, it
doesn’t mean that the extracurricular life is unimportant. On the
contrary, it’s significant. You do need learn something el
besides schoolwork, such as the piano and the violin, to rich
spiritual life. When at university, I was lf-contemptuous
becau I could do nothing except study. During the colorful
activities, I only watched others have fun, sad and lonely. As a
conquence, I do not want my dearest daughter to follow the
same old disastrous road.
Maybe, you still don’t understand me, but I’ll continue
what I always have been doing. My honey, thank you for the
laughter you show me. Thank you for the delightful time you
spend with me. Do remember that I love you forever.
Sincerely,
Dad
父母给女儿的信英文范文篇二
Dear Max,
Your mother and I don't yet have the words to describe the
hope you give us for the future. Your new life is full of promi,
and we hope you will be happy and healthy so you can explore it
fully. You've already given us a reason to reflect on the world we
hope you live in. Like all parents, we want you to grow up in a
world better than ours today.
While headlines often focus on what's wrong, in many ways
the world is getting better. Health is improving. Poverty is
shrinking. Knowledge is growing. People are connecting.
Technological progress in every field means your life should be
dramatically better than ours today.
We will do our part to make this happen, not only becau
we love you, but also becau we have a moral responsibility to
all children in the next generation.
We believe all lives have equal value, and that includes the
many more people who will live in future generations than live
today. Our society has an obligation to invest now to improve the
lives of all tho coming into this world, not just tho already
here.
But right now, we don't always collectively direct our
resources at the biggest opportunities and problems your
generation will face.
Consider dia. Today we spend about 50 times more as a
society treating people who are sick than we invest in rearch
so you won't get sick in the first place.
Medicine has only been a real science for less than 100 years,
and we've already en complete cures for some dias and
good progress for others. As technology accelerates, we have a
real shot at preventing, curing or managing all or most of the rest
in the next 100 years. Today, most people die from five things --
heart dia, cancer, stroke, neurodegenerative and infectious
dias -- and we can make faster progress on the and other
problems. Once we recognize that your generation and your
children's generation may not have to suffer from dia, we
collectively have a responsibility to tilt our investments a bit more
towards the future to make this reality. Your mother and I want
to do our part.
Curing dia will take time. Over short periods of five or
ten years, it may not em like we're making much of a difference.
But over the long term, eds planted now will grow, and one day,
you or your children will e what we can only imagine: a world
without suffering from dia.
There are so many opportunities just like this. If society
focus more of its energy on the great challenges, we will
leave your generation a much better world.
Our hopes for your generation focus on two ideas: advancing
human potentialand promoting equality.
Advancing human potentialis about pushing the boundaries
on how great a human life can be.
Can you learn and experience 100 times more than we do
today?
Can our generation cure dia so you live much longer and
healthier lives?
Can we connect the world so you have access to every idea,
person and opportunity?
Can we harness more clean energy so you can invent things
we can't conceive of today while protecting the environment?
Can we cultivate entrepreneurship so you can build any
business and solve any challenge to grow peace and prosperity?
Promoting equalityis about making sure everyone has access
to the opportunities -- regardless of the nation, families or
circumstances they are born into.
Our society must do this not only for justice or charity, but
for the greatness of human progress.
Today we are robbed of the potential so many have to offer.
The only way to achieve our full potential is to channel the talents,
ideas and contributions of every person in the world.
Can our generation eliminate poverty and hunger?
Can we provide everyone with basic healthcare?
Can we build inclusive and welcoming communities?
Can we nurture peaceful and understanding relationships
between people of all nations? Can we truly empower everyone
-- women, children, underreprented minorities,
immigrants and the unconnected?
If our generation makes the right investments, the answer to
each of the questions can be yes -- and hopefully within your
100 greatest challenges require very long time
horizons and cannot be solved by short term thinking.
We must engage directly with the people we can't
empower people if we don't understand the needs and desires of
their communities.
We must build technology to make institutions
invest money in the
challenges, but most progress comes from productivity gains
through innovation.
We must participate in policy and advocacy to shape
institutions are unwilling to do this, but progress
must be supported by movements to be sustainable.
We must back the strongest and most independent leaders
in each ring with experts is more effective for the
mission than trying to lead efforts ourlves.
We must take risks today to learn lessons for 're
early in our learning and many things we try won't work, but we'll
listen and learn and keep improving.
Our experience with personalized learning, internet access,
and community education and health has shaped our philosophy.
Our generation grew up in classrooms where we all learned
the same things at the same pace regardless of our interests or
needs.
Your generation will t goals for what you want to become
-- like an engineer, health
worker, writer or community leader. You'll have technology
that understands how you learn best and where you need to
focus. You'll advance quickly in subjects that interest you most,
and get as much help as you need in your most challenging areas.
You'll explore topics that aren't even offered in schools today.
Your teachers will also have better tools and data to help you
achieve your goals.
Even better, students around the world will be able to u
personalized learning tools over the internet, even if they don't
live near good schools. Of cour it will take more than
technology to give everyone a fair start in life, but
personalized learning can be one scalable way to give all children
a better education and more equal opportunity.
We're starting to build this technology now, and the results
are already promising. Not only do students perform better on
tests, but they gain the skills and confidence to learn anything
they want. And this journey is just beginning. The technology and
teaching will rapidly improve every year you're in school.
Your mother and I have both taught students and we've en
what it takes to make this work. It will take working with the
strongest leaders in education to help schools around the world
adopt personalized learning. It will take engaging with
communities, which is why we're starting in our San Francisco Bay
Area community. It will take building new technology and trying
new ideas. And it will take making mistakes and learning many
lessons before achieving the goals.
But once we understand the world we can create for your
generation, we have a
responsibility as a society to focus our investments on the
future to make this reality.
Together, we can do this. And when we do, personalized
learning will not only help students in good schools, it will help
provide more equal opportunity to anyone with an internet
connection.
Many of the greatest opportunities for your generation will
come from giving everyone access to the internet.
People often think of the internet as just for entertainment
or communication. But for the majority of people in the world,
the internet can be a lifeline.
It provides education if you don't live near a good school. It
provides health information on how to avoid dias or rai
healthy children if you don't live near a doctor. It provides
financial rvices if you don't live near a bank. It provides access
to jobs and opportunities if you don't live in a good economy.
The internet is so important that for every 10 people who
gain internet access, about one person is lifted out of poverty
and about one new job is created.
Yet still more than half of the world's population -- more than
4 billion people -- don't have access to the internet.
If our generation connects them, we can lift hundreds of
millions of people out of poverty. We can also help hundreds of
millions of children get an education and save millions of lives by
helping people avoid dia.
This is another long term effort that can be advanced by
technology and partnership. It will take inventing new
technology to make the internet more affordable and bring
access to
unconnected areas. It will take partnering with governments,
non-profits and companies. It will take engaging with
communities to understand what they need. Good people will
have different views on the best path forward, and we will try
many efforts before we succeed.
But together we can succeed and create a more equal world.
Technology can't solve problems by itlf. Building a better
world starts with building strong and healthy communities.
Children have the best opportunities when they can learn.
And they learn best when they're healthy.
Health starts early -- with loving family, good nutrition and a
safe, stable environment. Children who face traumatic
experiences early in life often develop less healthy minds and
bodies. Studies show physical changes in brain development
leading to lower cognitive ability.
Your mother is a doctor and educator, and she has en this
firsthand.
If you have an unhealthy childhood, it's difficult to reach your
full potential.
If you have to wonder whether you'll have food or rent, or
worry about abu or crime, then it's difficult to reach your full
potential.
If you fear you'll go to prison rather than college becau of
the color of your skin, or that your family will be deported
becau of your legal status, or that you may be a victim of
violence becau of your religion, xual orientation or gender
identity, then it's difficult to reach your full potential.
We need institutions that understand the issues are all
connected. That's the philosophy of the new type of school your
mother is building.
By partnering with schools, health centers, parent groups
and local governments, and by ensuring all children are well fed
and cared for starting young, we can start to treat the
inequities as connected. Only then can we collectively start to
give everyone an equal opportunity.
It will take many years to fully develop this model. But it's
another example of how
advancing human potential and promoting equality are
tightly linked. If we want either, we must first build inclusive and
healthy communities.
For your generation to live in a better world, there is so much
more our generation can do. Today your mother and I are
committing to spend our lives doing our small part to help solve
the challenges. I will continue to rve as Facebook's CEO for
many, many years to come, but the issues are too important to
wait until you or we are older to begin this work. By starting at a
young age, we hope to e compounding benefits throughout
our lives.
As you begin the next generation of the Chan Zuckerberg
family, we also begin the Chan Zuckerberg Initiativeto join people
across the world to advance human potential and promote
equality for all children in the next generation. Our initial areas of
focus will be personalized learning, curing dia, connecting
people and building strong communities.
We will give 99% of our Facebook shares -- currently about
$45 billion -- during our lives to advance this mission. We know
this is a small contribution compared to all the resources and
talents of tho already working on the issues. But we want to
do what we can, working alongside many others.
We'll share more details in the coming months once we ttle
into our new family rhythm and return from our maternity and
paternity leaves. We understand you'll have many questions
about why and how we're doing this.
As we become parents and enter this next chapter of our lives,
we want to share our deep appreciation for everyone who makes
this possible.
We can do this work only becau we have a strong global
community behind us. Building Facebook has created resources
to improve the world for the next generation. Every member of
the Facebook community is playing a part in this work.
We can make progress towards the opportunities only by
standing on the shoulders of experts -- our mentors, partners
and many incredible people who contributions built the
fields.
And we can only focus on rving this community and this
mission becau we are
surrounded by loving family, supportive friends and amazing
colleagues. We hope you will have such deep and inspiring
relationships in your life too.
Max, we love you and feel a great responsibility to leave the
world a better place for you and all children. We wish you a life
filled with the same love, hope and joy you give us. We can't wait
to e what you bring to this world.
Love,
Mom and Dad
父母给女儿的信英文范文篇三
Dear Daughter,
As we drove off from Columbia, I wanted to write a letter to
you to tell you all that is on my mind.
First, I want to tell you how proud we are. Getting into
Columbia is a real testament of what a great well-rounded
student you are. Your academic, artistic, and social skills have
truly blossomed in the last few years. Whether it is getting the
highest grade in Calculus, completing your elegant fashion
design, successfully lling your painted running shoes, or
becoming one of the top orators in Model United Nations, you
have become a talented and accomplished young woman. You
should be as proud of yourlf as we are.
I will always remember the first moment I held you in my
arms. I felt a tingling nsation that directly touched my heart. It
was an intoxicating feeling I will always have. It must be that
“father-daughter connection” which will bind us for life. I will
always remember singing you lullaby while I rocked you to sleep.
When I put you down, it was always with both relief (she finally
fell asleep!) and regret (wishing I could hold you longer). And I
will always remember taking you to the playground, and
watching you having so much fun. You were so cute and adorable,
and that is why everybody loved you so.
You have been a great kid ever since you were born, always
quiet, empathetic, attentive, and well-mannered. You were three
when we built our hou. I remember you quietly followed us
every weekend for more than ten hours a day to get building
supplies. You put up with that boring period without a fuss,
happily ate hamburgers every meal in the car, sang with Barney
until you fell asleep. When you went to Sunday Chine school,
you studied hard even though it was no fun for you. I cannot
believe how lucky we are as parents to have a daughter like you.
You have been an excellent elder sister. Even though you two
had your share of fights, the last few years you have become best
friends. Your sister loves you so much, and she loves to make you
laugh. She looks up to you, and es you as her role model. As
you saw when we departed, she miss you so much. And I know
that you miss her just as much. There is nothing like family, and
other than your parents, your sister is the one person who you
can trust and confide in. She will be the one to take care of you,
and the one you must take care of. There is nothing we wish more
than that your sisterhood will continue to bond as you grow older,
and that you will take care of each other throughout your lives.
For the next four years, do have a short video chat with her every
few days, and do email her when you have a chance.
College will be the most important years in your life. It is in
college that you will truly discover what learning is about. You
often question “what good is this cour”. I encourage you to
be inquisitive, but I also want to tell you : “education is what you
have left after all that is taught is forgotten”. What I mean by
that is the materials taught isn’t as important as you gaining
the ability to learn a new subject, and the ability to analyze a new
problem. That is really what learning in college is about – this will
be the period where you go from teacher-taught to master-
inspired, after which you must become lf-learner. So do take
each subject riously, and even if what you learn isn’t critical
for your life, the skills of learning will be something you cherish
forever.
Do not fall into the trap of dogma. There is no single simple
answer to any question. Remember during your high school
debate class, I always asked you to take on the side that you
don’t believe in? I did that for a reason -- things rarely “black
and white”, and there are always many ways to look at a
problem. You will become a better problem solver if you
recognized that. This is called “critical thinking”, and it is the
most important thinking skill you need for your life. This also
means you need to become tolerant and supportive of others. I
will always remember when I went to my Ph.D. advisor and
propod a new thesis topic. He said “I don’t agree with you,
but I’ll support you.” After the years, I have learned this isn’t
just flexibility, it is encouragement of critical thinking, and an
empowering style of leadership, and it has become a part of me.
I hope it will become a part of you too.
Follow your passion in college. Take cours you think you
will enjoy. Don’t be trapped in what others think or say. Steve
Jobs says when you are in college, your passion will create many
dots, and later in your life you will connect them. In his great
speech given at Stanford commencement , he gave the great
example where he took calligraphy, and a decade later, it became
the basis of the beautiful Macintosh fonts, which later ignited
desktop publishing, and brought wonderful tools like Microsoft
Word to our lives. His expedition into calligraphy was a dot, and
the Macintosh became the connecting line. So don’t worry too
much about what job you will have, and don’t be too utilitarian,
and if you like Japane or Korean, go for it, even if your dad
thinks “it’s not uful.” :) Enjoy picking your dots, and be
assured one day you will find your calling, and connect a
beautiful curve through the dots.
Do your best in class, but don’t let pressure get to you.
Your mother and I have no expectations for your grades. If you
graduate and learn something in your four years, we would feel
happy. Your Columbia degree will take you far, even if you don’t
graduate with honors. So plea don’t give yourlf pressure。
During your last few months in high school, you were so happy
becau there was little pressure and college applications are
finished. But in the past few weeks, we saw you are beginning to
worry (did you know you bite your nails when you are nervous?).
Plea don’t be worried. The only thing that matters is that you
learned. The only metric you should u is that you tried. Grades
are just silly letters that give the vain people something to brag,
and the lazy people something to fear. You are too good to be
either.
Most importantly, make friends and be happy. College
friends are often the best in life, becau during college you are
clor to them physically than to your family. Also, going through
independence and adulthood is a natural bonding experience.
Pick a few friends and become really clo to them – pick the
ones who are genuine and sincere to you. Don’t worry about
their hobbies, grades, looks, or even personalities. You have
developed some real friendships in high school in your last two
years, so trust your instinct, and make new friends. You are a
genuine and sincere person – anyone would enjoy being your
friend, so be confident, outgoing, and pro-active. If you think you
like someone, tell her. You have very little to lo. Give people the
benefit of the doubt; don’t stereotype and be forgiving. People
are not perfect, so as long as they are genuine and sincere, trust
them and be good to them. They will give back. This is my cret
of success – that I am genuine with people and trust them (unless
they do something to lo my trust). Some people tell me that
occasionally I would be taken advantage of. They are right, but I
can tell you that that loss is nothing compared to what I gained.
In my last 18 years leading people, I have realized that only one
thing matters – to gain the trust and respect of others, and to do
so, you need to trust and respect others first. Whether it is for
management, work, or friendship, this is something you should
ponder.
Do keep your high school friends, and stay connected to
them, but do not u them as substitutes for college friendship,
and do not spend too much time with them, becau that would
eat into your time to make new friends.
Start planning for your summers early – what would you like
to do? Where would you like to live? What would you like to learn?
What have you learned in college that might change your mind?
I think your plan of studying fashion is good, and you should
decide where you want to be, and get into the right cours. We
of cour hope you come back to Beijing, but you should go
where you think is best for you.
Whether it is summer-planning, or courwork planning, or
picking a major, or managing your time, you should take control
of your life. In the past, I have helped you quite a bit, whether it
is in college application, designing your extracurricular activities,
or picking the initial courwork. I will always be there for you,
but the time has come for you to be in the driver’s at – this is
your life, and you need to be in control. I will always remember
the exhilarating feeling in my life – that I got to decide to skip
kindergarten, that I got to decide to change to computer science
major, that I got to decide to leave academia for Apple, that I got
to decide to go to China, that I got to decide to go to Google,
and most recently, that I got to decide to start my own business.
Being able to decide means you get to live the life that you want
to. Life is too short to live the life others do or others want you.
Being in control feels great. Try it, and you’ll love it!
I told your mom I’m writing this letter, and asked what she
wanted me to say. She thought and said: “just ask her to take
care of herlf.” Simple but deeply caring – that is how your
mother is, and that is why you love her so much. In this simple
ntence is her hope that you will become independent in the
way you take care of yourlf – that you will remember to take
your medicine, that you will get enough sleep, that you will have
a balanced diet, that you will get some exerci, and that you will
go e a doctor whenever you don’t feel good. An ancient
Chine proverb says that the most important thing to be nice to
your parents is to take care of yourlf. This is becau your
parents love you so much, and that if you are well, they will have
comfort. You will understand this one day when you become a
mother. But in the meantime, plea listen to your mother and
take care of yourlf.
College is the four years where you have:
the greatest amount of free time
the first chance to be independent
the most flexibility to change
the lowest risk for making mistakes
So plea treasure your college years – make the best of your
free time, become an independent thinker in control of your
destiny, evolve yourlf into a bi-cultural talent, be bold to
experiment, learn and grow through your success and
challenges.
When I faced the greatest challenge and opportunity in my
life in 2005, you gave me a big hug and said “bonne chance”,
which means “good luck” and “good courage”. Now I do the
same for you. Bonne chance, my angel and princess. May
Columbia become the happiest four years in your life, and may
you blossom into just what you dream to be.
Love,
Dad (& Mom)
