What effect does school class size have on academic
achievement? Discuss
Nowadays, within the development of modern society, a considerable number
of countries are eking to develop their own education to increa their
academic achievement. That is why education needs reform. Small class
teaching organizational form of teaching is becoming the new trend of reform.
In recent years, small-class education have more than a dozen widely
implemented in the US, the UK and other developed countries.(Ehrenberg
et .al. 2001). Therefore, I will discuss the impact of small size class on
academic achievement .
Firstly, It is commonly believed that, as class size is large, communication
between teachers and students become weak. Moreover, if a large number of
students in class, the individual differences between students should be
greater. Then, teacher will manage the class difficulty. For students, learning
in large class, discussion and communication rate will be reduced. Lack of
group discussion, this is not conducive to student interest in learning.
Converly, when fewer than 25 students in the class, students can conduct
minar which could discuss academic issues in a timely manner, and given
their point of view.
Secondly, small class education is an effective way to teach students in
accordance with their aptitude. Compared with the traditional large-class
teaching, in teaching time, as class size reduction, the workload of teachers
should be reduced. They would have a lot of time to analyze the personality
characteristics of students for individual instruction. Admittedly, small class
teaching can take a variety of teaching methods to stimulate student interest
in acquiring knowledge and skills.

To sum up, small class really emphasizes the students have dominant
position in class activities. It embodies the idea of educating people-oriented.
Students would get more opportunities which is independent study and
individualized education. As stated previously, I think that small class
education has a good effect on academic achievement.
