Good afternoon, dear teachers and friends!
I' m happy to make a speech here. Thank you for your
coming. Now, the topic for my speech today is “Western
Festivals.” I would like to talk about Christmas.
Christmas is originally a Christian festival, as you
can e from the formation of this word, “Christ-mas.”
The first part of the word refers to Jesus Christ, and the
cond part “mas” comes from the word “mass,” referring
to a main religious ceremony in some Christian churches.
At first, it was celebrated for the birth of Jesus Christ.
Nowadays, although some churches still obrve this
festival for its religious reason, for most people,
including Chine people, Christmas has already become a
day of cular celebrations, when people exchange
greetings and gifts. However, it is still a biggest
festival in the West. It is as important to the Westerners
as the Spring Festival is to the Chine people.
Christmas day is on the 25th of December, and Christmas
Eve is of cour the evening of the previous day, the 24th
December.
Christmas holiday usually lasts for two weeks, during
which most schools have a Christmas break. Many families
put the Christmas tree in their hou, and hang many
decorations on the tree. Under the tree, they usually place
many Christmas prents. Giving out prents and receiving
prents are what kids like best about this festival.
On Christmas Eve, kids would put stockings at the end
of their bed, wishing the Santa Claus would come and give
them prents.
As to the tradition of giving and receiving prents
in Christmas, I think it has something to do with the
nativity story. In the nativity story, on the birthday of
baby Jesus, there was a bright star shining in the East.
There were three kings in the East who saw the star, and
they followed the star all the way to Bethlehem where the
star stopped. They came to a manger where baby Jesus was
lying. They worshiped the little baby and gave him prents.
I think this is a beautiful story. It shows a spirit of
sharing and love.
I like Christmas for the prents kids will receive and
for its lovely story.
Thank you very much!

Dear Judges and Friends,
The topic for my speech today is “Festival.” I would
like to talk about my favorite festival, the Mid-Autumn
Festival.
In China we have veral important festivals, such as
the Spring Festival, the Lantern Festival, the Dragon-boat
Festival and the Mid-Autumn Festival. Among them, I like
Mid-Autumn festival best, especially becau I live in
Xiamen.
In Xiamen, when we celebrate the Mid-Autumn festival,
we do not only follow the common practices such as having
a big dinner party with our family, eating mooncakes, and
appreciating the full moon at night, we also have one unique
custom which is only practiced in Xiamen, that is “Bo
Bing”.
“Bo Bing” is a very interesting game that almost all
Xiamen people play during this festival. Usually family
members or clo friends get together around a table with
a big round bowl in the middle and six dices in the bowl.
We take turns to throw the dices into the bowl. We will get
different prizes accroding to the different ways the dices
show their upper sides. Everyone is likely to become the
champion or “Zhuangyuan” for the year. There is an element
of luck and equal opportunity in this game. So people
usually get excited while playing. Also, the game gives
very pleasant sounds. The tinkling made by the dices
falling into the bowl is pleasant, people’s laughing,
cheering and applauding for the big prizes they’ve won is
pleasant. All this adds greatly to the joyful atmosphere
of this festival. As a kid, of cour I also like the
material prizes I get from the game, such as a candy or a
cake.
In this year’s Mid-Autumn Festival, my family invited
our foreign friends to come to our home to celebrate the
Festival together. They have two children who are younger
than me. While our parents were making Jiaozi together, we
kids played “Bo Bing”. We bought quite some gifts to share
with our guests as their enjoyed the game and
our get-together very much.
The literal translation of “Bo Bing” is “mooncake
gambling.” But actually it is not gambling, at least our
family never plays it that way. For us, it is more an
occasion of happy sharing and getting-together. This is why
Xiamen’s Mid-Autumn Festival has become my favorite
festival in the year.
Thank you very much!

The Spring Festival is the most important festival for
the Chine people and is when all family members get
together, just like Christmas in the West.
Waking up on New Year, everybody dress up. First they
extend greetings to their parents. Then each child will get
money as a New Year gift, wrapped up in red paper. People
in northern China will eat jiaozi, or dumplings, for
breakfast, as they think "jiaozi" in sound means "bidding
farewell to the old and ushering in the new".
That Chine people pay more attention to be
polite, while it is different from other countries .And
chine culture is brilliant and they know how to u a
brush to write
Now dragon is the symbol of the whole Chine people.
Dragon is a animal worshipped by the Chine people
from the time immemorial. But what is it? No one knows.
Some people think that the Yanzi crocodile is the
archetype of the dragon. However, most people hold that
dragon is a combination of many animals. And the abilities
of tho animals have been collected to it. Wang Chong, once
pointed that the horn of dragon liked deer's one, the head
liked camel's one, the eyes liked rabbit's one, the neck
liked snake's one, the talon liked eagle's one, the palm
liked tiger's one and the ear liked cattle's one.

Good morning, ladies and gentlemen.
Today I would like to talk about current environment
situations which you can e all over the world. While we
are pursuing better ways of lives, more problems we are also
making. Sometimes we only notice a unilateral aspect of the
matter while ignoring its various functions. This kind of
negligence, however, may cau rious problems that could
be devastating.
It is said that one fal move may lo the game. This
is proved in our daily life obviously. As the economy is
growing rapidly day after day, manufacturers are looking
for more opportunities to gain numerous profit. To earn
more money, one way is to decrea the cost of the products.
They move their factories to developing countries which can
not only benefit them much more profit than before, but also
tho countries welcome them since they can help increa
the countries’ GDP.
While it ems we can gain a lot from building factories
to produce products, the shortcomings of the buildings
are becoming obvious. Though at the beginning, tho
developing countries did gain a lot of profit. As time
pass, people living surround the factories deposit
industrial waste into the river which directly leads to the
influence of human’s lives. Fish died, birds disappeared,
people moved, and we couldn’t imagine what would come next.
The industries also u lots of resources to carry on
their production. Large amounts of carbon dioxide are
discharged, we all know the conquence of that, global
warming—as one of the most esntial environmental
problems in the world, is becoming more and more rious
currently. That the local government ignored was that the
factories damaged their environment without any punishment
but reception! They didn’t notice the negative aspect on
this investment. What a pity!
In summary, nowadays, businessmen are destroying our
motherland—earth for themlves. What should we do in this
situation? Ignore them or try to take some actions on it?
I believe all of us will choo the latter, right? So just
do it, nothing is impossible.
That’s all. Thank you.
