Science and technology makes our school life easier and better than before! When your
teacher gives lessons with his phone or pad, Bluetooth does help a lot. What is Bluetooth? Read
the article and find it out!
If you look around the room you are in right now, you'll probably notice a number of
electronics. But can you imagine if they all had to be joined together by wires? Picture the wire
snaking along the floor, for example, from your smartphone to your speaker, or connecting your
game controller to the computer screen, meaning you could never sit more than a couple of meters
away from it. A world of electronics connected by wires wouldn't just be untidy, but a possible
danger, too. That's where Bluetooth comes in. We've all heard of it——but what exactly is it?
Bluetooth is a method of short-distance(短距离)wireless communication between
electronics that makes u of the power of radio waves. The idea was first thought of by Dr. Janp
Haartn at Swedish mobile company Ericsson in 1994. Things really stepped up in September
1998 when the Bluetooth Special Interest Group(SIG) was t up to develop and spread the
technology. Bluetooth 1.0 came out in 1999, and a year later it began to be ud in mobile phones
and desktop computers. Now Bluetooth has become an increasingly popular way of solving the
problem of more and more electronics needing to be connected without having to connect
everything together with wires.
But if you look at the remote control(温控器)you u to choo the program on TV, you
might rightly ask yourlf why Bluetooth was such a big deal. After all, connecting objects with
infrared signals(红外信号)which can't be en had been done before. The problem with remote
controls is that they need to keep what is called “line of sight”. If something is standing between
the remote control and receiver, it won't work. Becau Bluetooth us radio waves, the things
standing in the way are no longer a problem.
Since its creation in the late 1990s, the technology has become more and more improved and
widely ud, with the 4 billionth Bluetooth objects shipped in 2020.
1. How does the writer lead in the topic “Bluetooth” in Paragraph 1?
A. By describing scenes.B. By comparing facts.
C. By telling stories.D. By explaining reasons.
A. started to be ud in carsB. made radio waves known to people
C. improved and spread quickly D. was able to connect all electronics
A. developmentB. popularityC. standardD. advantage
A. Phone llersB. Technology fans C. Newspaper reporters D. History lovers

A sleepover (过夜) program, which is designed to make kids believe that their favorite toys
enjoy reading, can help encourage children to pick up more books, a new study suggests.
2. With the tting up of SIG, Bluetooth ___________.
3. From Paragraph3we mainly get to know the____________of Bluetooth.
4. ________will most probably be interested in this text.
Toys sleepover programs are designed to get children interested in books. Children take their
toys to a library for the night. At this point, workers and volunteers take photos of the toys which
explore the library and read books. The next day, the children collect their toys and the photos of
what the toys did during the night. They are given the books that their toys cho to read.
It was found that before the sleepover, the children did not spend time looking at the books in
their play area at preschool. After the sleepover, the number of children who read to the toys was
higher than the number who did not, but after three days the effect decread gradually.
The rearchers also tested a method for keeping the effect. They reminded the children of
the sleepover a month later, by hiding the toys and showing them the photos again the next day.
This simple method brought an increa in the number of children reading to their toys.
The study proves for the first time that children who take part in sleepover programs read
picture books to their toys more. “We wanted to know if there really was an effect, and if so, how
long it lasts. Surprisingly, the children not only showed interest in the books, but also began to
read to their toys. This means that a new behavior pattern appeared that the children hadn't had
before. We did not expect anything like this,” said one of the rearchers.
Reading is important for the development of children's language skills and imagination.
When parents read to their children, it is a passive way of reading for the child. However, when
children read to their toys, it is a more active, lf-directed way of reading, helping them develop
into more active readers, rearchers said.
1. What is the purpo of the sleepover program?
A. To develop children's language skills. B. To help children to sleep well.
habit.
2. What do children do in the sleepover program?
A. Go around the library with their toys.B. Sleep with their toys.
C. Read together with their toys. D. Take their toys to the library.
A. reducedB. increadD. remainedC. appeared
C. To encourage children to read more. D. To guide children to form a good sleeping
3. The underlined word “decread” in paragraph 3 may mean _________.
4. What made the rearchers surprid after the study of the sleepover program?
A. Children showed no interest in the books.
B. The effect of the sleepover program could last long.
C. Children began to read to their toys on their own.
D. Whether the sleepover program had an effect remained unknown.

Most students like junk food(垃圾食品) becau it is tasty. Whether it should be allowed
in schools or not is still a question. Just as every coin has two sides, junk food in schools has its
advantages and disadvantages.
Most junk food is quite cheap, tasty and easy to get. If a child forgets to carry a lunch bag, he
or she will go hungry for most of the day. Here, junk food helps him or her to have something to
eat. Moreover, it is possible for students to save a lot of time.
Sometimes having junk food instead of a part of one’s main diet is thought to be OK. It
doesn’t have a big influence on a person’s health if someone only eats from time to time.
Compared with some junk food with high oil and salt, food like potato chips or juice can be
made in school dining halls. So students don’t have to choo unhealthy food from outside.
However, too much oil, salt and sugar in junk food do harm to human bodies. Some of them
cannot be broken down in the body. If someone eats too much junk food, it can lead to obesity
(肥胖) and other health problems like heart trouble, high blood pressure and so on.
Usually, children have snacks between class. There is a sudden increa of sugar, so they
get a lot of energy and become too active. But when class begin, the effects(作用) of the
snacks begin to reduce, they become slow. This caus low energy levels and lack of
concentration(注意力). It has a bad influence on a student’s performance during class.
In all, it is important that parents and schools should provide their kids with healthy and
balanced food and make them know the disadvantages of junk food. Then they will make healthier
choices for themlves.
