QianXueSen(11December1911–31October2009)was

ascientistwhomadeimportantcontributionstothemissileand

spaceprogramsofboththeUnitedStatesandPeople'sRepublic

knownChinesituation,Qiandecidedto

returntoChina,butinsteadhewasdetainedatTerminal

pending5yearsundervirtual

houarrest,Qianwasreleadin1955,inexchangeforthe

repatriationofAmericanpilotscapturedduringtheKoreanWar.

In1979QianwasawardedCaltech'sDistinguishedAlumni

arly1990sthefilingcabinetscontainingQian's

JiaotongUniversitywhiletherestwenttotheInstituteof

becameaninternrearcherattheNationalCentralRearch
