my aim has always been to excel in examinations, no matter how demanding they were. i made sure i achieved straight. as in all aspects of my my strong performance in my a level history exam to my past work experience, my background and qualifications have given me the skills to succeed in your gh school occupies most of my time, i have learnt the rewards of contributing towards school life and have been head student for two years. i take pleasure in debating issues that are important to me, and as part of my contribution i t up a school debating society. this position has improved my leadership, organisational and communication skills and, given me the chance to combine my theoretical knowledge and my interpersonal skills to successfully debate issues cloly related to history.

outside of academics, i am a keen sportsman, competitively playing hockey and football. last year i participated in the aa regional school athletics finals, achieving first position. my other passion is swimming, i have been a member of warwickshire swimming club for nine years. one of my biggest achievements has been taking the county champion title and crowned the record holder in the men’s 200m butterfly.

my swimming practices have also given me the chance to complete my life guard qualification, enabling me to gain work as a lifeguard. my swimming ability also helps with my interest in scuba spaning. last summer i volunteered to assist with teaching scuba spaning at a school in italy. this experience was extremely valuable, improving my communication skills and the appreciation of different cultures and backgrounds.

for years, i have maintained a firm devotion to history. all of my experiences, coupled with a strong academic background, will allow me to embrace studying history at oxford university.

could i put mylf in the life-threatening working environment? could i sacrifice my life for the benefits of others? some people may laugh at my crazy question. to me, that is a rious question i have come a long way to find my answer. “i am not sure whether it is worth to answer”; “what is the true meaning of that question?”

when i was a young child, i watched a soap opera that was about court. i was deeply impresd by the judge’s calmness and the lawyer’s eloquence and resource that were showed in this opera. from then on, i hoped to study law some day. fortunately, i performed well in entrance examination and got enrolled into __ university. then i cho law as my major without hesitation. at university, i studied hard and got gpa 3.4. what’s more, i broadly read all kinds of books, including philosophy, history etc. my teachers’ instruction strengthened my understanding of law and makes me understand the significance of law to a country. from my studies, i had a lot of fun and got more interested in law. moreover, i actively participated in practice in holidays from common company to law firm and tried to apply the theory i had learned into practice.

this summer, i had my internship in counlor department in __x group co ltd which was involved in a business contract dispute, which was submitted to china international economic and trade arbitration commission for arbitration. as a reprentative of the requested applicant, i took part in the evidence collection in the early arbitration stage and clearly explained why the 5% balance of goods was not paid on time. after knowing the whole ca, i visited my teacher, an arbitration law professor, and listened to her opinions. realizing the counterpart didn’t completely implement their contract duty, i gave reasons as follows: first, the counterpart company didn’t mention bearing issue, which caud that the delivered machines couldn’t be put into the plant becau of the disqualification of workshop. thus overhaul was necessary, which delayed production and resulted loss. bad on the reasons, the counterpart didn’t completely carry out its duty, so our party did not pay the balance on time. during this time, i found out the evidence and pictures that attested counterpart did not give reasonable suggestion and rvice, and made a statement in the court. finally, the arbitration turned out that counterpart compensated our loss, in which the arbiters invoked the reasons that i stated. they had a panel made up of 3 lawyers and 5 company reprentatives as agents while we just had 3 persons—two lawyers and me. under such condition, i was able to cooperate with them and clearly stated my opinions without any nervousness, which got their respect. this matter greatly inspired my enthusiasm on study.

in addition, i took part in the contact draft in veral companies. in the process, when i met a lot of problems, i often turned to my teachers for help, which made good impression on them. as i cherished each practice, i studied my specialty and english hard. with effective study method and diligence, i did well both in english and law, which helped me a lot to get scholarship every year. on the other hand, my practice inspired me to study. in practice, i exercid my legal knowledge. i also realize the big gap between theory and its application—sometimes i have master the rules but i didn’t know how to u it in actual ca. my practice experiences have not only strengthened what i learned but have supplied new knowledge for me, which is good for my future study and career.

in my study and practice, i admired outstanding lawyers’ eloquence and jumping thinking more and more. however, in china, most of lawyers come from theory study and tho who can perform well in practice are insufficient. moreover, after the china’s entrance to wto, there are a lot of problems with chine law. i think, my internship experience is not enough. in practice, i could combine substantive law with procedural law to analyze ca, but i still feel my theoretical foundation is not solid enough. what’s more, comparably speaking, the chances that i have to initiatively study and practice are not a lot. thereby, i am eager to study further abroad to know more about foreign law, thoughts and lawyer career so that i am able to stand out in fierce competition.

student council was a big part of my life in high school. i have participated in it since my frst year of high school. when i frst joined， i was quiet， na?ve， and unwilling to participate in many activities. i was scared to meet new people and afraid to apply mylf. this all began to change. half way through my frst year in student council， one of the advisors can up to me and asked why i did not participate that much. i did not have an answer for her and did not know how to respond. after this， i began to think of an answer. i became frustrated and decided to change. i started to show up at events and had a great time. i realized i loved this and wanted to start leading the activities. in my sophomore， junior， and now my nior year of high school， i asrted mylf and took on a strong leadership role in student council. i did not fgure out the answer to why i was so rerved until this year with the help of this question.

when i looked up leadership in the dictionary， it said that it was the capacity to lead and the act or instance of leading. the are two very broad defnitions of leadership. many people have different notions of what this word actually means. when i was challenged to u different items to describe what leadership actually is， i thought this was going to be a hard and obnoxious task. what could i learn from comparing leadership to a stuffed animal or a rubber chicken? but when i sat down to come up with a couple of answers， i realized that leadership could be compared to almost anything a person wants.

all i know about leadership i learned from a calculator. a calculator can add everything together to come up with the best answer. it can delet e what is unnecessary and only include what is important. it can solve any type of problem. the are all important equalities a leader has to have. a leader has to be able to add all of the ideas together to make the best possible plan. leaders have to know how to decipher the good and the bad out of an idea. they have to be versatile and know how to deal with different types of issues.

all i know about leadership i learned from a ball. a ball is able to bounce back up after it is dropped. it is round and has no creas. a ball can be thrown back and forth to different people. all of the qualities are also leadership qualities. a leader has to be ready for every situation that is thrown at him or her. he or she has to be able to bounce back from any tbacks and never dwell on the past. leaders have to exhibit many qualities and never be clod-minded about a situation. a leader must be able to delegate when he or she cannot get the work done. they have to trust everyone they lead to be able to "catch the ball" and keep a project rolling.

this activity made me realize that being a leader is so much more than just having authority and having the ability to take control of a situation. a leader has to be trusting of all the people he or she leads and， leaders must be able to combine ideas into one encompassing idea. they cannot sit in the background and watch events happen; they have to jump in and be involved. they should not delegate all their responsibilities away.

leadership is more than what the dictionary says it is.

i learned through all of this that i have many of the qualities.

i have the ability to solve problems， lead through adversity， and be versatile. from answering this question， i realized that i could lead effectively， even if my leadership style is different from other inspaniduals. when i joined student council in my frst year of high school， i did not have the qualities becau i was never put into a situation where i had to lead. i was too rerved to try. when i tried， i learned that i could succeed in this. i did not realize until i answered this question about leadership. i was never able to e that being a leader is not just about taking control of a group and telling everyone what to when i was a freshman， i thought leadership was this. i did not know that did not have to be forceful and strict. i stereotyped a leader then. thisis where i went wrong. a leader is about being yourlf and never letting anyone change you. i thought i had to change to be a good leaderonly when i expanded my comfort zone did i realize this was not trueit only took three years and a silly question/game to fgure this out.
