英语专业论文答辩陈述 篇一
Teachers, good afternoon! I'm Sun Mengyao, the students of class x x x x, my thesis topic is 《he word translation miotics perspective of Chine ancient aesthetic to create to xu yuan-zhong tangsong ci translation as an example》, the paper is completed under Shao Zhihong teacher of meticulous guidance, here, I express my deep appreciation to my supervisor, to the teachers to take part in my thesis express our heartfelt thanks to you for, and for the past three years I have a chance to listen to the teachings, teachers expresd sincere respect. Below I will be the purpo of this thesis design and main content to fellow teacher makes a report, ask everybody teacher criticism guidance.
First of all, I want to talk about the purpo and significance of the graduation thesis design.
Songci, together with Tang poems and Ming and Qing novels, is an indispensable style of classic Chine literature. It marks the peak of literature of the Song dynasty and makes agreat influence on the development of Chine literature and culture. Being an invaluable partof classic Chine literature,ci poems have always been a heated subject of scholars at home and abroad. However, rare studies have been undertaken on translations with regard to aesthetic motivations behind, or from the perspective of miotics.
In this thesis, with the actualization of the aesthetic motivations as my thematic concern,I will examine the translation of ci poems by Xu Yuanchong from the miotic perspective, which provides a unique angle to help increa translators' nsibility to some literary significance during the translation process. A detailed study of the translation will be made at three levels: phonological, syntactic and mantic, with the pragmatic aspect as the underlying background. It is hoped that this thesis will make a pioneering attempt to investigate the translation of ci poems from the miotic perspective.
Secondly, I want to talk about the structure and main contents of this paper.
Witfi an aim to make a systematic investigation of ci poems translation from a miotic perspective, this thesis is compod of six chapters.
Chapter 1 is the introduction. It tries to introduce ci poems and translation, the purpo, significance and the rearch methodology of the thesis from a general view.
Chapter 2 and Chapter 3 lay the theoretical foundation of the thesis. Chapter 2 attempts to prent a critical overview of quasi-miotic and miotic approaches to translation in China and abroad. It also examines the miotic difference of literary language, which points to the miotic characteristics of literary tr出islation.
Chapter 3 introduces briefly the motivation theory, inclusive of the theory of aesthetics and the aesthetic motivation behind the literary language, especially poetry. It examines the possible approaches to actualize aesthetic motivations in poems.
Chapter 4 explores the miotic perspectives to maintain the aesthetic motivation at three different levels, namely phonological, syntactic and mantic behind linguistic choices in literary language, and all are discusd in the pragmatic context. Respectively, phonological motivation includes rhyme, rhythm, onomatopoeia, reduplication, shuangsheng and dieyun.Syntactic motivation consists of information-focus, theme-rheme structure, syntactic repetition, ries and indeterminancy. Semantic motivation includes four parts: metaphoricity, nonreferentiality, intentionality and intertextuality.
Chapter 5 is the examination and evaluation of Xu Yuanchong's translated versions of cipoems of Tang and Song Dynasty from the above three levels.
Chapter 6 gives a brief conclusion to the whole thesis.
Finally, I want to talk about the deficiency existing in this paper.
This thesis examines the translation of ci poems by Xu Yuanchong from the miotic perspective with the actualization of the aesthetic motivations, which provides a unique angle to help increa translators' nsibility to some literary significance during translation process. However, there still exist obvious limitations in the study. Although the study is claimed to be miotics, some linguistic ideas are adopted to conduct a comparative analysis of the translated versions becau miotics cannot provide enough analytic tools to solve specific translation problems. We have resorted to miotic rationale or theoretical perspective in the study of phonological motivation and syntactic motivation. As for the study of mantic motivation, the advantage of miotics as theoretical and explanatory is manifested.
Thank you very much!

stant encouragement and guidance, I have finished my paper. Now, it's show time. You and I will work hard to welcome any correction. The topic of my thesis is 《Angela carter to mythology rearch - the female archetype in “new eve passion”, for example》。 I choo this as my topic due to the following reasons.Angela Carter (1940-1992) is an outstanding feminist writer who influence on Britishwomen's writing was “pivotal in this opening and transformation” [“23]. The year 2014 reprents the 22”^ anniversary of Angela Carter's death. In tho twenty-two years, her works have been widely taught internationally and brought about much critical debate. In a survey conducted by Cristina Bacchilega and Danielle M. Roemer [2],Carter is one of the most commonly taught women writers on North American programs. She has endowed us with an amazingly large number of legacies in her comparatively limited life, tting foot in various fields such as novels, short stories, children stories, dramas, non-fictions and so on. The acute obrvations with great insights,as well as the devastating wit and poignant mockery in Carter's works have made her stand out as an iconic figure in English literature. Many scholars and critics have devoted themlves to the rearch on Angela Carter from many perspectives, including gothic, magic realism, feminism,post-modernism and so on. As a prolific writer who is always ready to blur the boundaries between different genres, Carter has left us a wonderful world to delve into. With the emergence of western women's movement as well as the development of feminist criticism in the 1960s,the feminist approach has become a potent weapon for tho who are concerned with the emancipation and legal rights of women. Though women's social status has considerably improved due to the contribution made by countless predecessors, the fundamental problem still lingers on. Carter, with her versatile and avant-garde reputation, is best known as a feminist writer. Concerning the dilemmas and predicaments faced by women nowadays,it is very necessary for us to probe into her insightful and penetrating reflections on femininity as well as the relationship between two genders. The Passion of New Eve, as one of Carter's most reprentative works, is of great value in the rearch of her feminist thoughts and , is my paper outline. In the main part of this article, I put it into five parts.Chapter one is an introduction to the thesis, covering the rearch background, theobjective and significance as well as the organization of the thesis.Chapter two prents a broad picture of Angela Carter's life and her works, as well as the background information about The Passion of New Eve. It also reviews previous studies on Angela Carter and her works at home and abroad, summarizing achievements in the past and pointing out new directions in the future.Chapter three conducts a retrospective study on feminism and archetypal criticism. The author attempts to work out the origin and development of feminism, demonstrating the important role feminism plays in Carter's life. Then is the history of archetypal criticism,as well as tho classic female archetypes in mythology. Regarding tho fossilized and monotonous images as impediments to women's freedom and liberation,Carter endeavors to shatter them in her demythologizing strategy and appeals for a rational attitude toward heteroxual relationship.Chapter four is the main body of the thesis. Through an in-depth analysis on The Passion of New Eve,it demonstrates Carter's demythologizing of “The Temptress,,,”Mother Goddess“and ”Eve“ respectively in the text. Leilah, the embodiment of Delilah, the famous temptress in the Bible, cannot escape the fate of being objectified by men and herlf. By exposing”temptress“ as mere victims rather than symbols of viciousness. Carter condemns the oppression and exploitation of women in a patriarchal society. ”Mother“ in Beulah rves as a vere satire on tho mother goddess in mythology. Carter smashes the legend by revealing the surgically-made esnce of mother and the patriarchal values lurking behind her alleged matriarchal kingdom, warning against the peril and impracticality of extremist matriarchy. And her most convincing example goes to Eve, the most important female character in the Bible, Her transformative journey from a chauvinist to a real woman in the story illustrates that gender, rather than a hereditary feature, is the result of social influence and unremitting imitations. Carter concludes the story with proposing ”androgyny“ as a solution to the current problems, implying that mutual respect and understanding is the only way to achieve the harmony between the two genders.Chapter five comes to a general conclusion, summarizing the limitations of the thes as well as some suggestions for further study.OK! That is all. Thank you!

Ladies and gentlemen, Good afternoon. My name is ——from class—. The title of my thesis is——. This thesis is completed under the instruction of Ms.. I’m extremely grateful to her for her constant direction and suggestion for revising the draft of my paper. I also have to thank the professors sitting here today for your generosity in spending your time here.
My thesis is about the Celie’s transmutation from an obedient, numb, oppresd country girl to an independent and strong woman both in economy and emotion, exploring the growth path of black women. I choo this as my topic due to veral reasons. First, I’m fond of literary works and I was impresd a lot the first time I read the color purple. Second, As the protagonist of the book, Celie is the reprentative of all the represd women who fight to be free. The path of Celie’s independence is an important and inspiring part in The Color Purple.
I hope by studying this topic, we can help to provide spiritual power for oppresd women who want to ek for freedom and find a solution for the plight of women in ethnic minorities in western society.
There are three chapters in addition to introduction and conclusion in this paper.
Part one is the introduction part which prents the social conditions of the American Feminist Movement and main story of the color purple.
Part two is chapter one. It analys the caus of celie’s ugliness, including social oppression from racism and patriarchal society and family caus.
Chapter two discuss the driving forces for the transmutation of celie. Black women’s creativity and mutual assistance among them are key points to her transmutation. Through the love and concern among women, she learns with the spirit of resistance, finding her own spiritual beliefs and pillars.
Chapter three prents the basic definition of female beauty and analys the celie’s beauty after her independence. She grows from an ugly duckling who can only tolerate everything silently into an independent and beautiful white swan with women consciousness.
The conclusion part summarizes the main content of this paper and the social meaning of this topic. In The Color Purple, Alice Walker portrays veral independent and strong females. She criticizes the traditional patriarchal society and advocates the spirit of fighting. It has a profound effect in enhancing the status of black women. Through the description of Celie, Alice Walker us a unique perspective to reflect the life and feelings, pain and hope of American blacks, especially black women. They are not only oppresd and injured by racial discrimination of the white people, but also suffer from the abu and insult from black men. Feminist movement in the 1960s improves this situation. They begin to think about how to defend their dignity and how to struggle against racial discrimination and xual discrimination. The Color Purple repines against the fate of black women. It also reveals the ways of fighting for their liberation.
Ok, that’s all.

Good morning, all apprair committee members. I am a f. o. &boli-bennett, my tutor is Chen. Her constant encouragement and guidance, I have finished my paper. Now, it's show time. You and I will work hard to welcome any correction.
The topic of my thesis is《 George Eliot “Middleton ma qi” of the female and female problems》.Here's the paper lected topic background.
George Eliot (1819-~1880) was bom as Mary Anne Evans, an English novelist, journalist, translator and one of the leading writers of the Victorimi era who developed themethod of psychological analysis. George Eliot is her pudonym in the literary circle.
In January 1855 after eight-month-stay with George Henry Lewes from Germany back toEngland, her first article Evangelical Teaching in Westminster Review was well received, butconsidering the discriminative views on women critics in the mid-Victorian era,she ud “theauthor of article No. 4as a code name to conceal her gender so that she could gaina fair treatment from critics. With the encouragement of Lewes and her distinct views onwriting, she turned to fiction in 1856, among which Scenes of Clerical Life is her first novel.
As a leading woman novelist in the late Victorian era, Eliot is a prolific writer in noveland poetry. Her works include ven novels including Adam Bede (1859), The Mill on theFloss (1860),Silas Marner (1861),omo/a(1863), Felix Holt, the Radical (1866),Middlemarch (1871-72),Daniel Deronda (1876),poetry with The Spanish Gypsy (1868) asthe reprentative, translation of David Strauss' The Life of Jesus (1846) and of LudwigFeuerbach's The Esnce of Christianity (1854) and other articles like Silly Novels by LadyNovelists (1856),Scenes of Clerical Life(l857),etc. when she worked as editor ofWestminster Review (1851-1854).
As far as Eliot's writing style is concerned, she creates her fictional world out of herpersonal experience~a middle-and-lower-class rural England of the nineteenth-centuryMidlands. All her rich experience gives ri to her distinct writing features, which is highlypraid by Leavis in The Great Tradition:
Of the earlier novelists it was George Eliot alone (if we except the minor relevance of JaneAusten) who work had a direct and significant bearing on her own problem. It had this bearingbecau she was a great novelist, and becau in her mature work she handled withunprecedented subtlety and refinement the personal relations of sophisticated characterxhibiting the 'civilization,of the 'best society,' and ud, in so doing, an original psychologicalnotation corresponding to the fineness of her psychological and moral insight .
Leavis summarizes the writing features of George Eliot from two aspects. Firstly, Eliot's lifeexperience and her rearch into the Victorian society are well reflected in her works, whichjustifies for our study on the inter-relationship among her life, her feminine outlook and herfeminine characters in her works. Secondly, she specializes in ”sophisticated characters“ withthe touch upon the Victorian society and a daring trial on the psychological development ofcharacters.
Young called Eliot as ”moralist of the Victorian revolution . Undoubtedly Eliot'sdeep insight into human psychological and moral aspects symbolizes her mature techniques inhandling with characters, which,to a great extent, also greatly influences her successorsincluding Henry James, Joph Conrad, and D.H. Lawrence, etc.
When it comes to her position in English literature,Leavis places Eliot “mnong threeother great novelists including Jane Austen, Henry James and Joph Conrad.” He regardsEliot as “a great artist~a great novelist, with a great novelist's psychological insight andfineness of human valuation .” Lord David Cecil compares George Eliot with Jane Austenand says by way of explaining the phra, it is this: that “George Eliot, being concerned, notto offer 'primarily an entertainment,' but to explore a significant theme-a theme significantin its bearing on the 'rious problems and preoccupations of mature life'-breaks with 'thoftmdamental conventions both of form and matter within which the English novel up till thenhad been constructed?‘” In this way, Eliot's contribution to English literature and herphilosophy beyond the traditional realm for women cannot be neglected.
Middlemarch is a milestone of Eliot's mature works, which depicts a provincial life of avirtual town named Middlemarch in1830s with more than 70 characters in it Leavis callsMiddlemarch as “the only one book to reprent her mature genius.” Virginia Woolfmakes- the following comments on Middlemarch:
It is not that her power diminishes, for, to our thinking, it is at its highest in the matureMiddlemarch, the magnificent book which, with all its imperfections, is one of the few Englishnovels written for grown-up people.
The political background of Middlemarch is concerned about the first Reform Bill in1832 of English history. This novel has won critical triumph as well as commercial success, which embodies Eliot's philosophy on life, women, reform and morality, etc. Besides, characters reflect the writer's thinking and passion. As Longinus points out,“The genius ofgreat poets and pro writers, as their passion declines, finds its final expression in thedelineation of character !” So it is with George Eliot in her Middlemarch, Therefore, thefeminine characters in Middlemarch have something to do with George Eliot's outlook onVictorian women. What's more, her personal experience also contributes to the formation ofher distinct feminine views.
In this thesis, rearches will concentrate on the feminine protagonists in Middlemarch tohave a relatively deep study of Victorian women and their women questions in the novel fromthe feminine perspective. During the process, the text intends to find out the interrelationshipbetween Eliot's distinct feminine views and her feminine characters. More importantly, thethesis will induce a relatively objective study on Middlemarch and its feminine characterswhen they tackle with their problems so as to find out both progressiveness and limitations ofGeorge Eliot's feminine views.
Next, it is an outline of my paper. In the main part of this paper, I divide it into six parts.
In the first part, the authoress displays the introduction of the thesis including therearch background, rearch perspective and aspects as well as the purpo and significanceof the current study.
In the cond part, the thesis shall give the definition of women questions and related keyconcepts in Eliot's writings.
In the third and fourth part comes the textual analysis. In the two parts, the text willfocus on Dorothea the protagonist to discuss the typical women questions in family andsociety and to look into how they deal with the questions from the gynocritic perspective.
The fifth part shall be a further exploration on George Eliot's views on women.
In the sixth part, the rearch shall come to the conclusion of the thesis as well as somesuggestions for further exploration.
OK! That is all. Thank you! Plea ask questions.

Good morning, all apprair committee members. I am… and my supervisor is …
With her constant encouragement and guidance, I have finished my paper Now, it is the show time. I will prent my efforts to you and welcome any correction. The title of my paper is An Analysis of the Influence of Popularity of Western Festival in China in Respect of Culture Diversity.
I choo this as my topic due to the following reasons. With the development of reform and the expanding of foreign exchanges in China, western festivals gradually become a fashion in China. It has a special and extensive influence on our culture diversity and the values of young people. Foreign festivals are celebrated for fun in China today and give people more opportunities to relax. However, many people worry about this phenomenon, so in the Internet and newspaper, many articles hold an opinion that western festivals should not be celebrated in China. So I want to know whether the popularity of western festivals only take disadvantages for China.
This paper aims to find out the underlying reasons of popularity of western festivals in China and their influences on our cultural diversity so as to guide people out of the wrong region inwardly and roster Chine festival culture with an active attitude. That is, to absorb the foreign reasonable factors and u it. At the same time, we should exam and reform the unsuitable things with an epoch perspective so that we can meet the coming of the universal civilization.
Meanwhile, as a English major, learning western festival culture is important to the study of English. But in order to improve our culture awareness and language skills, we should know the western festivals origin connotation and influence so that we can work smoothly in the field of cross-cultural communication. Meanwhile, we should also understand deeply not only the western festival culture but also Chine traditional culture and its festivals.
Next, it is an outline of my paper. In the main part of this paper, I divide it into five parts.
The first part introduces the background of popularity of western festivals in China and the meaning of rearching.
The cond part is about analyzing the result of the questionnaire of the investigation and drawing a conclusion that western festivals are quite popular but they don’t influence the leading position of tradition festivals; what’s more, they are helpful with cultural diversity.
The three part studies the reasons of popularity of western festival in China.
Analysis on the Influence of the Popularity.
Great Impact on Chine Traditional Festivals.
Impact on Cultural Diversity.
The Correct Attitude to the West Festival in Cultural Diversity Part six draws some conclusions that the popularity of western festivals in China is just outward phenomenon and traditional festivals are still playing an important role in people’s daily life. However, everything has two sides. We do not receive all the popularity of western festival cultures, and we shouldn’t ignore our own festival cultures. The appropriate attitude may be “Remove the dross while keeping the esnce”! Western cultures can rve for the development of our own cultures.

Good morning, distinguished professors and teachers, thank you for attending the oral defen. I’m xxx and come from class x. My supervisor is professor Li. I would like to express my deepest gratitude to Prof. Li.With his consistent guidance and valuable suggestions, I have finished my paper. Now I will prent my efforts to you and gratefully welcome any suggestion.
The title of my paper is xxxxxxxxxxxxx. I choo this as my topic due to the following reasons.
Firstly, I am very interested in the study of ambiguity. Ambiguity is a common phenomenon in all natural languages. As is known to all, in our daily conversations, ambiguity is often employed to achieve the effect of humor, thus creating a relaxing atmosphere and letting people feel at ea. Some jokes caud by ambiguity is very interesting.
Secondly, I have read veral articles about ambiguity written by linguistics and scholars. I found my knowledge of ambiguity is very limited, superficial and nonsystematic. What I knew is just the tip of the iceberg. So I plan to learn more about ambiguity by this rearch.
Thirdly, I found many scholars have carried out numerous studies of ambiguity, but a majority of the studies are focud on single language parately. Articles about comparison between English ambiguity and Chine ambiguity are not sufficient. So it is necessary to make further study.
For the above facts, I lect this title.
Next, I will prent the outline of my thesis. It consists of 7 parts.
The first part gives a brief introduction to the ambiguity and structure of the thesis.
The cond part is literature review, briefly introducing the development of study of ambiguity and some scholars’s main views.
The third to fifth parts focus on three types of ambiguity in English and Chine: phonological ambiguity, lexical ambiguity, syntactic ambiguity. In every broad type, I respectively list some detailed branches and cite some vivid English and Chine examples to explain the ambiguity phenomena. But I put more focus on the third part and point out two differences of ambiguity between English ambiguity and Chine ambiguity.
The part six will point out positive results by using ambiguity deliberately in daily conversations, advertiments and literary works.
The last part is the conclusion.
I hope by this contrastive rearch, we will have a better understanding of ambiguity in English and Chine and apply it to our life and study.
When reading the final draft, I still find my argument is not so comprehensive and improvements are needed. So welcome your precious suggestion.
That’s all. Thank you.
