Filling up on Information
People now have access to more information than ever before thanks to the Internet. While there are clearly benefits to it, there are also unintended conquences. One in particular is information overload, commonly referred to as “infobesity.” As the name suggests, it involves consuming an unhealthy amount of information.
Infobesity comes in a number of different forms and affects people in a variety of ways. Busi
ness people, for example, may struggle to make decisions when faced with a huge amount of information. For younger people, infobesity is often linked to their u of social media. Young people may be bombed with messages from various social media apps. Furthermore, they may feel the urge to constantly check their phones so as not to miss out on anything. Even online shoppers are affected. With so much information and so many choices available, even the simplest purcha can cau a great deal of stress and anxiety.
Infobesity also has a negative effect on how long our attention lasts. According to a study by Microsoft, the average Canadian now spends less than 10 conds digesting a piece of media before they move on to something new. This data rais concerns that our ability to pay attention to things will continue to decline as this information overload increas.
So, what can be done to prevent the effects of this condition? While there is no easy answer, one obvious step is to limit our sources of information. Try to only focus on things
that really matter to you and on just one thing at a time. Taking a break from your cellphone can also help reduce your stress. And who knows? Since technology got us into this mess in the first place, perhaps it will also prent solutions in the future.

Is Small Talk Necessary?
What’s the first thing you do when you enter a crowded room? You probably look around for a familiar face. When you can’t find one, you have two choices: you can stand alone, or you can walk up and speak to someone that you don’t know.
Starting a conversation with a stranger, though, is often uncomfortable and can be a little scary. Yet as you go through life, you’re sure to encounter strangers in many different situations, when a need to connect with others will hopefully outweigh your fears. In order to prepare, it helps to learn the art of small talk.
Small talk is the beginning stage of a casual conversation, which usually takes place between strangers or casual acquaintances. With small talk, two or more people arch for common interests and points of connection. If one is discovered, the conversation usually begins to flow more naturally, often resulting in deeper discussion.
Mastering a few techniques will allow you to enter a room full of strangers with confidence.
When you walk up to a group, notice anyone trying to make eye contact with you becau this is often a sign that the person is interested in talking. Begin by introducing yourlf, and then, you should begin with one of three topics: talk about yourlf, the other person or something you can both obrve, like the weather.
Another way to begin a conversation is with a compliment. Your prai of someone’s scarf might lead to a discussion about favorite places to shop.
Radio host Terry Gross, who has interviewed thousands of people over the years, says one opening request works for her every time: “Tell me about yourlf.” This approach gets the ball rolling becau people enjoy talking about themlves.
Though small talk takes practice, it’s worth the effort and it’s the stimulus that can lead to deeper conversations.

Roughly 45 million Americans currently hold $1.6 trillion in student debt, with the average student-loan receiver owing between $20,000 and $25,000, according to the Federal Rerve. Among tho actively making payments on their debt, the average monthly installment is between $200 and $300. And with 5.3 million more people unemployed than in February, right before the U.S. fell into the economic depression caud by pandemic (流行病), some people say that student-debt forgiveness could be beneficial to the economy.
