词汇精讲
1. keep
（1）keep作动词，意思是“保持”，常见的结构为keep+形容词/动词-ing形式，意为“使某物保持某种状态”。例如：
The cat keeps running after the rat, trying to catch it.
那只猫一直在追赶老鼠，想要抓住它。
I need to keep fit. 我需要保持健康。
Plea keep quiet. 请保持安静。
（2）keep的后面还可以用keep sb doing sth，表示“让某人一直做某事”。例如：
You keep me waiting for half an hour.
你让我等了半个小时。
2. mean
（1）mean作及物动词，表示“打算，意味着”，后接名词，动词不定式短语或从句。例如：
The red light means “Stop”. 红灯表示停止。
I mean to go shopping. 我的意思是去购物。
The sign means that the road is blocked. 这个标志表示此路不通。
（2）mean的名词形式是“meaning”，表示“意思、涵义”。例如
What’s the meaning of the word？ 这个单词是什么意思？
（3）What do / did you ? 该句型的意思是“你……是什么意思?” 例如：
What do you mean by acting like this? 你这样做是什么意思?
3. cut
cut作动词，意为“切”，其过去式和过去分词是cut本身。例如：
He cut a slice of bread for me.
他为我切了一块面包。
First cut the meat into small pieces.
首先把肉切成小块。

(1) cut down意为“砍倒；缩减”。例如：
They cut down the big tree.
他们把这棵大树砍倒了。
You’d better cut the article down to about 2000 words.
你最好把这篇文章缩减到两千字左右。
(2) cut in意为“插入；插话；插队”。例如：
Don’t cut in when others are talking.
别人说话的时候别插话。
He cut in at the head of the line.
他在队伍的前面插队。
(3) cut off意为“切断；隔断；断绝”。例如：
The flood cut the villagers off from the rest of the world.
洪水切断了村民们与外界的联系。
4. hate
hate作动词，意为“憎恨、讨厌、不喜欢”，后常跟不定式或动名词作宾语。跟不定式表示某一次具体的情况，跟动名词表示习惯性动作。例如：
I hate walking in the rain.
我不喜欢在雨中行走。
I hate to go out tonight.
我讨厌今晚出去。
5. central
central做形容词，意为“中心的，中间的”，名词形式为centre，例如：
Living in the central Australian dert has many problems.
居住在澳大利亚中部的沙漠地区有很多问题。
Vienna is the centre of European classical music.
维也纳是欧洲经典音乐的中心。
6. spirit
spirit作名词，意为“情绪；精神”。例如：
What a noble spirit this is!
这是一种多么高尚的精神。
The spirit of Lei Feng encourages us to rve the people.
雷锋精神激励我们为人民服务。
He is in low spirit.
他情绪低落。
7. relationship
relationship作名词，意为“关系”。例如：
In fact, understanding is the ba of any relationship.
事实上，理解是任何一种关系的基础。
The relationship between us is clo.
我们俩关系很近。
【拓展】
常用词组：have a clo relationship with…意为“与……关系密切”。例如：
China has a clo relationship with Britain.
中英两国关系密切。
8. brush
（1）brush作动词，意为“（用刷子）刷”。例如：
We should brush our teeth at least twice a day.
我们每天应该至少刷两次牙。
（2）brush作名词，意为“刷，刷子”。例如：
You should give your teeth a good brush.
你应该好好刷刷牙。
（3）brush sth. off sth.意为“把某物从某物上刷（去）掉”。例如：
He brushed the snow off his clothes and went inside.
他把衣服上的雪拂去，然后才进去。
