“Good news,” Mom said, with a bright smile on her face. "The Parker family wants Surfer. They'll be here in an hour to take him home. ” Surfer had been with us for two days. While I was sad at the thought of eing him go, I knew I couldn't keep him.
My family operate a foster home（收养所）for pets. Surfer had been in an animal shelter, and he was nt to us so we could place him with a loving family. Surfer was a cute puppy, so finding a home for马其顿王朝
him had been very easy. Dad entered Surfer's information into a pet adoption website, along with some photos, and within a few hours, the Parkers applied to adopt him. Mom looked over their application, and they emed like responsible people, so she called them.
However, not every dog was so lucky. Zooey was nine years old, and she'd been with us for a few months. It emed like nobody wanted to adopt an older dog. Dad said that was a shame becau older dogs made wonderful companions. Zooey's previous owner had treated her terribly, and when she was nt to us she was injured. I remember how angry Dad emed at the time. "No dog should be treated like that,“ he said.
When Zooey came to us, she was upt around everyone. She barked at our two dogs as if in defen and backed away when I tried to approach her. But with our considerate care, it wasn't long before Zooey trusted us. I took her on walks around the neighborhood and got her ud to other people and dogs. She took a real liking to Surfer. In fact, they often curled together as they napped（打盹）.
The Parkers soon arrived, and we all went into the backyard so they could meet with Surfer. Zooey followed us out, her tail wagging lazily, as Surfer rolled in the grass with the two Parker children.

A friend of mine who name was Martin Brown had a bad memory, which made him really famous. He was so forgetful that he sometimes forgot what he was talking about in
the middle of a ntence. His wife had to always remind him about his appointments, his class or even his meals! Since Martin was a professor at a well-known university, his forgetfulness often caud him a lot of trouble. It wasn't that he was unintelligent, as some critical people tended to say, he was just very, very abnt-minded.
One hot summer day, Professor Brown decided to take his children to the beach. The aside town he planned to visit was about a three-hour train ride away. To make the trip more interesting for his young children, he decided to keep the name of the town cret. Unfortunately, by the time Martin had arrived at the train station, the poor forgetful man had forgotten the name of the town. Luckily, a friend of his happened to be in the station. He offered to take care of the children while Martin went back home to find out where he was going.
The professor's wife was surprid to e him back again so soon, but she laughed when she heard what was the matter. She distrusted his memory, so she wrote the name of the town on a piece of paper. Satisfied that she had solved the problem, she nt her husban
