Firstwave
Thefirstwavereferstothefeminismmovementofthe18ththroughearly20thcenturies,which
ssuchasVirginiaWoolfareassociatedwiththeideasofthe
ookARoomofOne'sOwn,Woolf"describeshowmensocially
andpsychicallydominatewomen".Theargumentofthebookisthat"womenaresimultaneously
victimsofthemlvesaswellasvictimsofmenandareupholdersofsocietybyactingasmirrors

Theterm"first-wave"wascoinedretrospectivelyafterthetermcond-wavefeminismbeganto

InBritain,theSuffragettescampaignedforthewomen'svote,whichwaventuallygranted−to

Thecondwave(1960s-1980s)t
onwhathadbeenachievedintheFirstWave,de
Beauvoirisassociatedwiththiswavebecauofherideaofwomenas"theother".Thisideawas
