One warm Autumn day, Jane drove to Cincinnati to stay with her friends for Thanksgiving Day. After the holiday, she drove back together with Sam, her eight-year-old son.
On the way, unexpectedly, it began snowing. It had never snowed so early in this area. The bad weather made Jane upt. And she was more upt when thinking of her husband, a firefighter. He had lost his life not long before when helping a family put out a big fire.
Sad, Jane tried to calm herlf and continued driving ahead. However, the weather turned wor. The snow danced violently in the air and her small car frequently skidded (打 滑)on the highway. She drove slowly and carefully, in ca of any accident.
To check whether her son was alright, through the mirror in front of her, she had a look at him in the back at, with a pair of crutches (拐杖)nearby, which he was temporarily using due to an injured ankle.
Seeing her son was just sleeping, Jane quickly took her sight away from him; she needed to find a place to stop. She knew due to the small wheels, her car would soon be unable to make it through the snowy road with more and more snow. Then, through the white dancing snow, she saw her salvation (救星)——a green sign reading “Rest Area”. She thought finally she found a place where she could wait out the snowstorm.
sonarShe pulled over, noticing the car's gas needle was nearly empty. "It doesn't matter as long as we have a warm place to stay,“ she whispered. Then, she parked in the lot where a big truck stopped. She left her son sleeping in the back at and she went to check out the inside.
As she struggled to walk through the snow towards a brown building, she found there were no lights on. She went to the door, only to find it locked. It was the only rest stop for
miles but they couldn't get in. Jane's heart sank. Whatever strength had been holding hersince her husband's death-disappeared.
Paragraph 1:
