1.
Size and Draft Limitations of Vesls
1.1 Maximum Length. The maximum length overall including bulbous bow for a commercial vesl acceptable for regular transit is 289.56 m.gsq
1.2 Maximum Beam. The maximum beam for a commercial vesl acceptable for regular transit is 32.31 m.
1.3 Maximum Width. No vesl with a maximum width exceeding its maximum beam may transit the Canal without prior review and approval of vesl plan.
1.4 Protrusions. Anything which extend beyond a vesl’s hull shall be considered a
        protrusion and subject to all applicable laws and limitations.
1.5 Maximum Height. The allowable height for any vesl transiting the Canal or entering the Port of Balboa at any state of the tide is 57.91 m measured from the water line to its highest point.
1.6 Maximum Draft. Prior to the initial transit of a vesl who transit will exceed
      10.82 m, full information required in 35 CFR 103.6 shall be submitted to Canal 
        Authorities.
1.7 Minimum Draft. The vesls over 176.78 m in length should be trimmed so pilot 
      can e the rangers over the forecastle from center of navigation bridge.

2.
Requirement for Pilot Platforms and Shelters on Certain Vesls
2.1 Vesls with extreme beam of 30.48m or more and length of 190.5 m overall or more may require more than two pilots.
2.2 In addition, all vesls who extreme beam is 24.38 m or more, are required to 
      provide bridge wings shelter platforms for the protection of control pilots.

Navigation Bridge Features Required of Transiting Vesls
3.1  Wheelhou windows shall be:
- of sufficient size and number to provide a clear view;

3.2 Bridge wings. Bridge wings shall extend to the maximum beam of the vesl and shall  provide a clear, unobstructed passage along their forward positions from the 
wheel hou doors to extreme ends of the bridge wings.
3.3 Normal conning positions.
- conning position No.1 is located directly behind and clo to the forward center wheelhou window;
- conning positions No.2 and No.3 are located to port and starboard of conning   
        position No.1 and directly behind and clo to nearest window thereto that 
              provides a clear unobstructed view ahead;
- conning positions No.4 and No.5 are located at a extreme ends of the port and

3.4 Minimum visibility requirements.

      navigation bridge, one and one-half ship length forward;
- if visibility from normal conning positions is obscured by cargo gear or other                    obstructions forward of the beam, the total arc of obstructed visibility shall not exceed 15 degrees;
- the sides of the vesl, fore and aft, shall be visible from bridge wings conning positions.
3.5 Indicators. All vesls over 45.72 m in length shall be provided with:
(a) Rudder angle indicators as follows:
- If of 24.38 m or more in beam, at least one inside the wheel hou and one on each bridge wing of such design and placement so that at least one can be easily read by day or night. 
- They shall show in degrees clearly and accurately the position and direction of the rudder.
(b) Propeller revolution tachometers or variable pitch propeller indicators as 
      follows:
- If of 24.38 m or more in beam, at least one for each propeller, located inside the wheelhou and one for each propeller located on each bridge wing, of such design placement so that at least one can be easily read by day or night.
- indicators shall show revolutions per minute clearly and shall accurately indicate the direction of the propeller or propellers;
- all vesls with variable pitch control indicators will have them so located as required in this subction.
3.6 VHF radio. Every power-driven vesl of 300 GRT or over shall be equipped with
            at least one VHF transceiver as follows:
- must be operable from the navigational bridge;
- must be equipped with International Channels 12, 13 and 16.
3.7 Whistle controls. Vesls shall be provided with whistle controls as follows:
- on all vesls, one within easy reach on the navigational bridge from conning positions No.2 and 3;
- if the beam of the vesl is over 15 m, additional controls shall be provided at the extreme end of bridge wings, at conning positions No.4 and 5;
- controls shall make it possible to regulate precily any required whistle signal.
3.8 Steering light.
- all vesls over 100 m in length shall have installed, at or near the stem, a
      steering range equipped with a fixed blue light which shall be clearly visible 
      from the bridge along the centerline.

3.9 Bow  thrusters.
            Vesls equipped with bow thrusters should provide control located at
            the extreme ends of the bridge wings, as well as inside the wheelhou.

4.
Construction, Number and Location of Chocks and Bitts
4.1 All vesls, except vesls not requiring locomotives, shall be fitted with a double chock t athwart ships right in the stem and another double chock t athwart ships right in the stern, on vesls of over 22.86 m beam two double chocks may be substituted. If such substitution is made, the chocks shall be placed port and starboard not more than 2.5 m abaft the stem or 3 m forward of the stern, provided that the chocks are not more than 3 m from the center line of the vesl.

- be of heavy clod construction;
- have a convex bearing surface with a radius of not less than 180 mm. 4.4 U of roller chocks is permissible provided they are not less than 15 m above the waterline at the vesl’s maximum Panama Canal draught.
4.5 The single chocks shall have a throat opening of not less than 650 square cm in area – preferred dimension 305 x 230 mm and shall capable of withstanding a strain of  45,000kgs on a towing wire from any direction. 
4.6 The double chocks shall have a throat opening of not less than 900 square cm in area – preferred dimension 355 x 255 mm and shall capable of withstanding a strain of 64,000 kg on a towing wire from any direction. 
4.7 Each single chock shall have an accompanying bitt capable of withstanding a strain of 45,000 kg.
4.8 Each double chock located at the stem and the stern shall have two pairs of accompanying heavy bitts with each bitt of each pair capable of withstanding a strain of 45,000 kg.
4.9 Other double chocks shall have a pair of accompanying heavy bitts with each bitt capable of withstanding a strain of 45,000 kg.
4.10 No part of the vesl that may be contacted by the towing wires, at any angle, shall have less than a 180 mm radius.
