Packing can keep the goods safe and complete, and prevent loss and leakage during transportation, and even rai their marketing value.

Before shipment, the buyers generally nd their shipping requirements to the llers, informing them in writing of the packing and mark, mode of transportation, etc. known as the Shipping Instructions. On the other hand, the llers usually nd a Shipping Advice to the buyers as soon as the goods are loaded on board the ship, advising them of the shipment, esp. under FOB or CFR terms. Shipping Advice, in general, may include: the number of contract and the relative L/C, name of commodity, number of packages, total quantity shipped, name of vesl and its sailing date and so on.

III. B/L (A Bill of Lading)
1. Definition: B/L is an important shipping document given by the ship-owner or his agent to the shipper acknowledging receipt of goods, recording their condition, and promising to deliver them in the same condition to the consignee.
2. The three important purpos of B/L:
1 It is a document of title. If the B/L is made negotiable, it can be transferred with the endorment of the right person while the goods are in transit.(如果是可以转让的提单,货在途中即可以通过合法人的背书将它转让。)
2 It rves as an evidence of contract of carriage between the carrier and the shipper. The carrier is responsible for delivering the goods to a named port at the disposal of the holder of the B/L as stipulated.(承运人应负责按提单的规定将货物运至指定港口,并交给提单的持有人。)
