Moral panic
half的复数形式随着媒体社会影响的不断扩大和现代国家控制手段的逐渐成熟,一种新的社会现象出现在六、七十年代的西方社会中。这一时期,越来越多的社会问题和社会群体被贴上“异常”的标签,并在媒体的宣传和渲染下,逐渐成为整个社会的威胁。这一现象被后来的研究者称为道德恐慌(moral panic)。
With the gradual expanding of media‟s influence to the society and the progressively maturity on modern nation control means, a new social phenomenon occurred in west society at the period of 60-70 last century. In that period, more and more social problems and groups were labeled the “exception” tab, and due to the media‟s publicizing and romancing, tho social problems and groups are becoming the threat to the whole society. This phenomenon is called moral panic by later rearchers.
According to Stanley Cohen, author of Folk devils and moral panics, moral panic occurs when "[a] condition, episode, person or group of persons emerges to become defined as a threat to societal (social)values and interests."

Moral panic is a byproduct of social nervousness, and it is also a controversial issue. Medias play an important role in moral panic, and has clo connection with the whole process of moral panic.
Moral Panic in media can be broken down into 3 stages. The first stage is Occurrence. An event occurs and becau of its nature, the media decide it is worthy of dramatic coverage and the event is signified as a rious and worrying one. The cond stage is wider social influence. T o fanning the flames, Media make connections between one event and the major social menace,although sometimes it isn’t(ems not) very reasonable. After the initial event, the life of the story is extended through the contributions of media discussion,which point s out that this event is just the tip of the iceberg. By amplified and fuelled, it becomes a pervasive social issue that gained wide public attention. People get worried and society becomes nervous. The third stage is Social Control. Experts ek some sort of solution s and this often comes with a change in the law, designed to further penali tho established as the threatening deviants at the source of the panic. Then the problem either disappears or at least deteriorates and people feel better. This satisfies the public who feel they are empowered politically by the media.

When Medias reported such as the Peng Yu incident, they rarely investigated deeply to recover the process and considerated the influence of the whole thing. Some reports even were not broadcasted on the basis of interviewing related parties. While as media were keen on using irritating headlines, words like ”Another Nanjing Peng Yu Incident ”, “Another Tianjin Xu Yunhe Incident” to mislead the public. Although there are some moral warnings by reporting this phenomenon “biting the hand that feeding one”, yet it is found that reporting tho things did not arou social ethics at all, but made us afraid to do something in a solid move manner when we face the elder who need help. Tho reports make the moral panic-- “helping others while being treated unjustly” expanding, which directly result in a huge vicious incident at recent days—the death of Wang Yue.

The girl was left barely moving in her own blood as more pasrs-by walked, cycled or drove around her motionless body, few glanced at the bleeding child. But none of them called for the ambulance or offered any assistance -- until a woman who was a 58-year-old scavenger named Chen Xianmei, carrying a sack appeared 10 minutes after the initial collision. Dropping her sack, she quickly moved the girl to safety (a safer place)and went to look for help. Wang died eight days later.
