地位英文Before I came to Shanghai, I had no idea that I would start a career that is cloly connected to English, or in other words I wouldn’t imagine today I am capable of communicating in English fluently.
Two years ago I got a design job in Shanghai, the biggest metropolis in China with so many people from different countries using different languages. English plays an important role in communications, even in my designs. So I decided to learn some English to benefit my work. Originally, I just wanted to practice listening and speaking. But by accident I signed up for the interpretation class. It turns out to be a right accident. So thanks to the accident, I got to know, after hard training, everyone can do interpretation. It’s not just for professionals. This really blew my mind. That was the first time, a crazy idea popped up in
my head: tho interpreters, I want to be one of them.

In order to get the certificate of interpretation I started English study. But after two months, I was exhausted. I found it’s impossible for me to study while working. Especially for a person who haven’t learned English for so many years, to learn another language almost from scratch do need lots of time. So I had to decide: Do I really want to change my career? Do I really like English?

Working as a designer was more stable. As I’ve learned it for years. I’m familiar with it and that’s what I’m good at. But to be an interpreter, almost everything is new to me. I didn’t know whether I could pass the exam or find a job. There are many unexpected factors in this career.
But when I had a clo look of them, I found a completely different picture. In the past, I thought I really like design but after working at an advertising company for two years I fou
nd so many defects. The endless working overtime, not very high salary and I almost lost initiatives. All of the were pushing me to the verge of crazy. It’s like I was a slave being forced to work. On the contrary, I like English even though I didn’t learn it well before. And the other advantages of interpretation, such as flexible working time, well-paid and on some level becau of its unpredictable, it is an interesting job cau you know, to be an interpreter you need to deal with many different people. You never know what will happen.
So to sum up, on that point I hated what I was doing but at the same time I really found a job that attracted me. The answer was pretty clear. Two months later I put my foot down. I decided to try my best to be an interpreter, a good interpreter. Then I told my parents. At first I prepared to receive some rious criticism. But surprisingly I got huge support from them which gave me inexhaustible energy to continue my study.
When I look back ever since I made this decision, I became an extremely positive and goal orientated person. I realized how important that doing something you really like is. E
ven though learning English is far more difficult than design and more complicated than I thought it would be, I still believe I made the right decision and I’m glad I made the decision. Like there is a saying: do something you really like, nothing is impossible.
Since I had a well-defined goal, the next step was to start my studies. Honestly at the beginning, there always had a voice inside me said: “Don’t be silly. You can’t do it! You can’t do it!” I was angry about what she said but unfortunately on some level she was right. I forgot lots of stuff I had learned in my high school. There were far more things I need to remember than I thought it would be. But I have been reminding mylf if someone el can do it why can’t I? During my study the most important thing I found was that learning a language is not just about its words, ntences, or grammars, it is about its culture. Each language has its unique t of structure which is developed by its unique culture. Now I can understand why linguists always talk about the strong connection between language and its culture. 酬和
So for learning authentic English, I read books about English native speaker’s culture. As

for the English environment, since I didn’t have chance to go abroad I create an English environment for mylf, making everything surrounding me is English. I even talk to mylf in English which in my opinion it’s the best way to help me to become acquainted with thinking in English. And of cour the vocabulary is always my priority. But instead of remembering them from word list, I prefer to remember them while reading. That’s more efficient and easy to remember. Before I studied here I just kept lf-teaching, but after I attended class at Web, I found the most effective way is to u English as much as you can, after you u it three to five times you probably won’t forget it. So I have to say I got great improvements at Web, not just learned lots of stuff here, more importantly I learned is how to learn a language and how to u it. So thank you! And it is my honor to have this opportunity to share my experiences with all of you. Thank you!
