Concert Reportwar
When I first walked into the Granada Theatre I was amazed by the intricate detail put into the design of the venue. At first glance, it emed to be an extremely high class venue, and it made n why Professor Roy asked us to dress nicely. In all honesty I felt totally out of my element. I showed up a couple minutes late so they had me stand until the first piece was over to take my at. The riousness added to the layer of prestige that I had begun to attribute to the event.
When I finally took my at, I was astounded by the tup too. The piano was center stage. 忙day
cor是什么意思I was expecting an orchestra before I had arrived, but was not too disappointed to e just Yuja Wang. I could e her, but I could also e people sitting in the balcony. The idea “e and be en” was evident by the tup of the venue. Everything was dark except the stage so you could e things better, the clor they were to the stage. I noticed that the acoustics in the building allowed it so that the sound would travel throughout the whole venue and it did not really matter where you sat, unless you wanted to e Yuja Wang up clo. One thing I noticed about crowd etiquette was that you clapped after a certain que and not after each piece. It was difficult to truly know when the performance was over, there was an over-enthusiastic clapping that brought more and more encores to show off her skills. I had no idea when the concert would end until finally, you e non-students getting up to leave. I went to the restroom after the performance and was not surprid to find an extremely nice bathroom that went along with the venue.
The performance was paid for by Santa Barbara in association with the SB arts commission. Santa Barbara as a community wanted to bring a talented musician to SB ra
ther than a world famous pop star. This says a lot about the community. It shows that among the community there are people who value classical music and it was definitely evident by the people who were not students who attended. Mainly you get an older generation of people, but there were some younger people there as well. Most of the attendees of the concert looked to be fairly well off as well, which speaks to the where the venue was located, the Granada Theatre feels like an upper class venue. I feel like for them attending the concert with a buddy or business associate would be acceptable as a social event in the same way going to a music festival would be acceptable for college students to go with friends.

urbanfoxThe pieces before intermission did not catch my attention so much, becau I was not familiar with a lot of the pieces at the time. However, the pieces after intermission were amazing, especially the encore. The pieces after intermission focud on Beethoven and his “Hammerklavier”. Becau we had heard the piece in class I knew a little bit about it and it made it easier to listen to. I could e the riousness and complexity in the music by the way she played it. The starts and stops characteristic of Beethoven and his musica
l jokes were evident. Throughout the performance I was left with a feeling of intensity. However, my favorite part of the performance were the encores where Yuja Wang performed some classic songs everyone knew, especially one from a Hungarian folktale that brought back childhood memories.
