这句话有两个标点符号，使用比较特殊。其一，冒号。冒号的作用不用说，绝大多数是对
前面句子的解释，这里也一样。但是如果谈及语法成分，个人认为，冒号后面的for a century, past conditions of life have been conditionally speeding up, till now we live in a world of noi and violence and speed.是同位语，是对前面句子的解释。其二，逗号。按理说，逗号不能连接并列句，如果逗号要连接并列句，必须要用and，or，but，for等并列连词。但是我认为，这里for a century, past conditions of life have been conditionally speeding up, till now we live in a world of noi and violence and speed.中，till now前面的逗号应该是表示并列的，因为这两个句子关系密切，所以直接用逗号断开了。以上两点是我个人看法，大家参考；如果可以的，提出更好的看法。
