Others detect the fault arc too late or are too complex (costly). In the ca of the prent detection devices, the fault arc is detected by means of at least one Hall nsor (1) which is arranged in the region in which the magnetic field originating from the arc acts, a Hall nsor preferably being ud which changes its switching state only when a magnetic field runs parallel to the nsor surface, and is arranged at a distance of a few centimetres, from the installation parts (R, S, T) (R, Y, B in non-German systems) which carry the operating voltage. In addition, a cond detector can be arranged, consisting of an optical waveguide (optical fibre cable) (8), the optical waveguide being arranged in the immediate vicinity or around live parts, and the light from the fault arc being coupled in through the sheathing of the optical waveguide.
