Talk about a December What a month it was. A quick recap: Dec.1 (ems like so long
ago) was our tree trimming party. I don't normally think of a tree trimming as much of a party, but it was.
Special thanks to Shirley Huffman and her crew for putting on a great event including food and, of cour,
decorations. Next up, on Dec. 5, was the first monthly brunch put on by Cindy Daily and the crew from
Mariposa Yacht Club. That was a fantastic brunch and a great crowd. We will be doing them on a monthly
basis from now on, but we won't be having the help from the Mariposa folks. On Dec. 8 we had Peggy and
hennyTony Fraga's 50th anniversary party. What a party that was. It started early and just like the Energizer Bunny, it kept going and going. In ca you didn't notice, the world ended on Dec. 21. Of cour a lot of members noticed since they were here partying like there was no tomorrow. Thanks to Claire Rommel for ending civilization as we knew it. She
wasn't planning on much of a turnout, but if you end it they will come. Of cour we somehow managed to keep going to Christmas with a pot luck Christmas dinner. I am always moved by how many people choo to spend their holiday at the club with their friends. Then of cour the old year ended in style with the New Year's Eve party. Again, thanks to Shirley Huffman and helpers for putting on a great party and to Bo Jones (Mike Tos and the band) for great music. My goal for my year as commodore was to maximize the activity in the club. As the old warning goes: “Be careful of what you ask for. You might just get it.”.
A quick look ahead at January. On Saturday, Jan. 5, I (with substantial assistance from Rich Braun and Forrest Reed) will be putting on my first Commodore's Dinner. The menu is prime rib and salmon from the smoker. Sides will be
樱花国际日语baked potatoes, salad, vegetable and desrt. Cost is $10 per person. No rervations, just show up for dinner. I (with a lot of help) will be doing the dinners the first Saturday of each month throughout the year. It is kind of an extended Wednesday night dinner. A chance to try a little fancier fare, which requires more than a couple of hours to prepare. Next month (Feb. 2) I am planning on doing a roll your own sushi night. Be ready to roll and dip.
Saturday Jan. 19 is a Karaoke Party. Shirley Huffman will bring the music for our chance to sing. I'll be there and will probably end up singing. Don't worry, you'll have plenty of warning so you can step outside for a bit. It will be a lot of fun (embarrassing fun, perhaps) so plea come on down and try out your singing voice.
Sunday, Jan. 27 is our next Sunday brunch. This time Mariposa won't be here to show us the ropes. Cindy will be
looking for lots of help to put on a great meal, so drop her an e-mail and help out with the cooking and (very important) clean up.
Lastly, on Thursday evening, Jan.17th is our regular Board of Directors meeting at 7 PM. All members are welcome to attend and e how your club is run and let your concerns be known. The bar will be clod during the meeting.
I've been at the helm for two months now and what a great time it has been. We have a lot going on and it just ems to keep getting better. Remember, the is your club. We are putting on all the activities for you, so come on down and enjoy them.
Question or problems? Let me know. I'm usually around.

We have a new Zinfandel behind the bar. Montevina is a full bodied Zin from Plymouth, CA.
Looking ahead to January, we will be having the carpets cleaned after the Christmas decorations are put away. In addition to the cleaning, the carpets will be stretched and re-tacked at the edges where it is fraying. Watch for more
notice clor to the cleaning. Also, speaking of cleaning, we are planning the first “pub scrub ” in early March. More to follow.
We are still looking for Bartenders . As you know, our club sponsored events need volunteer bartenders. We would like to ensure we can get enough volunteers to allow all members to enjoy the party on both sides of the bar. I will be emailing all members who expresd an interest in bartending on their applications. Thanks in advance for helping where needed.
Happy Holidays to all, no matter where you are. See you all in 2013!

Member’s Corner
It has been a tradition at AYC to help the families of the Alameda Head Start Program every year at
Christmas time. We ask the Director to supply the names of the most needy children and then
the Santa in all of us goes to work. I hope you had the opportunity to stop by the club and e the amazing
stack of prents under the tree. I heard from many members how much fun it was to shop for children again. The children received new clothing and toys. Bicycles, dolls and teddy bears spilled out of festive holiday bags - the generosity of our members was clearly evident. To top it off, this
year we collected a significant amount of cash and bought every family a large box of food including peanut butter, oatmeal, canned fruit and vegetables, tooth paste, soap, tooth brushes and lots more. Thank you everyone for your abundant holiday spirit!! —- Dana
THANKS TO OUR AYC FAMILY AND FRIENDS - AND EVERYONE WHO CAME TO CELEBRATE OUR
50TH WEDDING ANNIVERSARY!
THANK YOU ALL FOR THE GREAT FOOD, MUSIC, CARDS, LIBATIONS AND LAUGHTER! YOU'RE ALL THE BEST.
