Dog Culture in China and the West
Ⅰ.Introduction
"He is your friend, your partner, your defender, your dog. You are his life, his love, his leader. He will be yours, faithful and true, to the last beat of his heart. You owe it to him to be worthy of such devotion." - ----------unknown
Dogs enjoy a unique relationship with humans unlike any other domesticated species capable of rving our many whimsical and utilitarian needs and according to Serpell (1995), “domestic dogs are unusual or exceptional in so many different respects,” pointing out they were the first domesticated species creating a “revolutionary change in human affairs.”rewards①
However, dogs are not always perceived or treated in the same way in different cultures. There is a sharp contrast about dogs between Western culture and Chine culture. In this paper, we will make a comparison between the two.
