USE:A perfume component having a strong fragrance. A compound wherein R is cyano has spicy and strongly floral-like fragrance. A compound wherein R is phenyl has woody and animalistic fragrance. A compound wherein R is methoxycarbonyl has sweet and floral fragrance. Also uful as a synthetic intermediate for a heterocyclic compound replaced with a norborcarbonyl group. PREPARATION:A 1-norbornylcarboxylic acid halide shown by formula II (X is halogen) is reacted with an olefin shown by formula III in a solvent such as preferably N,N-dimethylbenzylamine in the prence of a palladium catalyst such as palladium acetate and a tertiary amine to give a compound shown by formula I.
