Acronym Description
ABH Adjustable bent housing
AMB “Obsolete” designation for PDC thrust bearings. Re-designated: “PDC” BHA Bottomhole Asmbly.The portion of a drilling asmbly below the
wadedrill pipe. It can be very simple, compod of only the bit and drill
collars, or it can be very complex and made up of veral drilling
tools.
BS Standard bearing ction with elastomer thrust bearings (Type 50 ud
in water bad muds and Type 20 ud in oil bad muds)
BSA Standard bearing ction with PDC thrust bearings
DLS Dog Leg Severity.Rate of deflection in a deviated well. Typically
expresd as deflection, in feet, per 100 feet of drilled length.
ELBS Extended Lower Bearing Stabilizer designed to protect output shaft
from abrasion wearpin
FBS Designation for Turbodrills incorporating a steerable bearing ction of
either the fixed or adjustable bent housing type.

STN Stabilized sleeve, (nipple), providing both stabilization and the connec-tion between turbine ctions.
TER Turbodrill™ Equipment Request.An Sii-Neyrfor worksheet submitted by sales personnel to operational management as a preliminary request for
equipment and advi of anticipated operating environment for a pendinglfsufficient
tool proposal.
TFA Total Flow Area. Pertaining to PDC drill bits:The area of bit water-
cours available for fluid and cooling flows.
TS1XL Extended length first, (T1), turbine ction, includes approximately
30% more turbine stages than typical T1 ctions.
TS2 Second turbine (power) ction in a direct drive Turbodrill™
TSB Balanced Turbodrill™ incorporating a top motor ction, (T1), bypass
directly to the annulus.
TSH Balanced Turbodrill™ incorporating a top motor ction, (T1), bypass
through a hollow turbine drive shaft to the drill bit
TSP Thermally stable PDC. A diamond bad cutter material incorporating higher resistance damage by differential thermal expansion than PDC. An alterna-
tive to PDC in high temperature environments.
UBD Underbalanced drilling.
WBM Water bad mud.
