A Little Zebra Finch
My friend gave me a pair of Zebra Finches. They are so adorable! I kept them in a simple bamboo cage with dry grass in it rving as their warm and comfortable nest.truelove
This kind of birds are said to be upt in the prence of humans.
I hung the cage over the window with a pot of exuberant French spider plant. I overspread the cage with the long trailing vines and small green leaves of the plant to make the birds feel safe as if they were in the deep woods. Their singing was like a flute, clear and pleasant, indicating that they felt comfortable and relaxed in the cage.

The sunlight coming in through the window made half of the small nail-like leaves of the plant lost in the shadow and the other half transparent like emerald, blurred and desultory gleamed.. The shadows of the birds loomed among the leaves. Sometimes I could hardly e their bodies, even the cage, but occasionally I saw them putting out their lovely red beaks through the leaves.

I rarely pushed aside the leaves to watch them, and gradually they got the courage to put out their small heads to look at me. Little by little they got ud to me.
Three months later some wiry and tender chirps came out of the leaves which had become even more exuberant. I guesd that they must have had a baby. However, I would never let mylf look into the cage and disturb them, not even when I added food and water for them. Several days past and I saw a head poke out, so small. That’s her, the baby bird.
She was so small that she could easily get out of the cage through the bamboos. Look! How like her mother: the red beak, claws, and the grey blue furs. The only difference was that she had not developed the pearl-like whitish dots on her back. Her body was as plump as a ball of fluff.
For the first few days she hung about just around the cage, and then she began to fly all over the room. At this moment she was on the top of the cupboard, at another she was standing on the bookca, posing important-looking and pecking the names of the great
writers on the books. Shortly after she bumped into the light cord, leaving it swinging back and forth; then she darted to the frame of the painting. But she would fly back home immediately after she heard her angry parents call for her from the cage.
I left her alone. After some time, even when I opened the window, she would just stand on the frame for a few moments but never fly out of the window.
By and by she became emboldened to rest on my desk.
