Teaching steps
I. Warming –up activities
1. Background knowledge
EQ: the short form for emotional quotient, which means the ability to manage ourlves and our relationship effectively----consists of four fundamental capacities: lf-awareness, lf-management, social awareness and social skill
IQ: the abbreviation for “intelligence quotient”, a measurement of a person’s intellectual ability in relation to that of the rest of the population.
2. Signs of High EQ or Low EQ
Listed below are general characteristics of people with high or low EQ. Now try to identify them. Tickle before a sign of high EQ.

3) Let his/her feelings lead him to healthy choices and happiness.

8) Not dominated by negative emotions such as fear, worry, guilt, shame, embarrassment, disappointment, hopelessness, powerlessness, dependency, discouragement.
9) Avoids responsibilities by saying things like: "What was I suppod to do?  I had no choice!”.
10) Be intrinsically(本身的) motivated.

12)  Frequently feels inadequate, disappointed, rentful(愤恨的), bitter or victimized (使受害).
13) Tends to feel optimistic, but is also realistic, and can feel pessimistic at times.

18) Judge and criticize others without realizing he is feeling superior, judgmental, critical, and without realizing how his actions impact others' feelings.
19) Being a poor listener; Interrupts in a conversation; Miss the emotions being communicated; Focus on "facts" rather than “feelings”.

II. Text analysis
1. Structure analysis
The text can be divided into 5 parts.
Part 1: an argument that EQ is the hot ticket for business success.
Part 2: a transitional paragraph leading to the question of how to cultivate EQ.
Part 3: a list of four adaptive skills;
Part 4: an argument that EQ can be cultivated;
Part 5: the conclusion of the essay.
2. Questions about the text
Answer the following questions with no more than 10 words.
1) Why is judgment a more valuable contribution than knowledge ?
