An introduction of the School of Romanticism in English literature
Romanticism in England came into being in the latter half of the 18th century with William Blake and Robert Burns reprenting the spirit of what is usually called Pre-Romanticism. With the publication of Lyrical Ballads by Wordsworth and Coleridge in 1798, Romanticism began to bloom in the history of English literature. This is an age of poetry.
Romanticism , a movement in the literature of virtually every country of Europe, the United States, and Latin America that lasted from about 1750 to about 1870, characterized by reliance on the imagination and subjectivity of approach, freedom of thought and expression, and an idealization of nature.
Revolutions in America and France at the end of the 18th century mark the beginning of the Romantic period, which lasted until the mid-19th century. The call for independence and individuality inspired the Romantics to explore consistent themes in literature created during this time period.

The literary works of Romanticism in English literature show the richness of the inner world of a person, his dreams and open the beautiful and mysterious aspects of one's soul, using literary methods of comparison and fantasy. The symbolism of the poems has a deep meaning and the way they are interpreted allows the reader to feel and experience tho emotions and ideas that were the primary purpo of the author to be reflected in the works.英语歌曲
If to take the poems of two famous reprentatives of English Romanticism: Coleridge and Wordsworth we would definitely find out that in their poems their personal life experience is hidden, or probably the works reflect the events that directly refer to their lives or occasions that happened to people they knew.
Romanticism, initiated by the English poets such as Coleridge and Wordsworth, as well as Blake, Keats, Shelley, was concentrated primarily in the creative expressions of literature and the arts; however, the philosophy and ntiment characteristic of the Romanticism movement would spread throughout Europe and would ultimately impact not only the arts and humanities, but the society at large, permanently changing the ways
in which human emotions, relationships, and institutions were viewed, understood, and artistically and otherwi reflected.
English Romanticism begins in 1798 with the publication of Wordsworth and Coleridge’s The Lyrical Ballads and ends in 1832 with Walter Scott’s death.
English Romanticism is a revolt of the English imagination against the neoclassical reason. The French Revolution of 1789-1794 and the English Industrial Revolution exert great influence on English Romanticism.
The romanticists express a negative attitude towards the existing social or political conditions. They place the individual at the center of art, as can be en from Lord Byron’s  Byronic Hero. The key words of English Romanticism are nature and imagination.
The features of Romanticism are wider outlook, imaginative spirit, sometimes symbolic .
Wordsworth, Coleridge and Southey were known as Lake Poets becau they lived and k

The former two published The Lyrical Ballads together in 1798, while all three of them had radical inclinations in their youth but later turned conrvative and received pensions and poet laureateships from the aristocracy.
Owing to differences in political attitudes, the romanticists split into two schools. Some romantic writers reflected the thinking of class ruined by bourgeoisie, by way of protesting against capitalists development and turned to the feudal past , i.e., the “ merry old England “, as their ideal, or, “ frightened by the coming industrialism and the nightmare towns of industry, they turning to nature for protection.” The were the elder and sometimes called passive or escapist romanticists, reprented by Wordsworth, Coleridge and Southey.
Others expresd the aspirations of the class created by capitalism and held out an ideal, though a vague one, of a future society free from oppression and exploitation. The were the younger and sometimes called active romanticists reprented by Byron, Shelly and Keats.fucking什么意思

Nature, often personified, also plays an important role in their works. The passions of nature and the beauties of nature appealed strongly to the imagination of the Romantic writer, and the glory of lakes and mountains , the little joys or sorrows of children, the weal and woe of ordinary, uncultured peasants, the wonder of the fairy world, and the splendor of the Greek art all became the fountain-heads in the writer’s inspiration. Poetry, of cour, is the best medium to express all the ntiments. In fact, all the romanticists mentioned above were poets. The Romantic period was one  of poetical revival.
During this time in the history of the romanticism movement in literature, it was believed that objectivity was not only desirable, but also achievable. Subjective emotions, contemplation of nature, and the creative impul felt by individuals were all of far lesr importance than building the physical and commercial infrastructure of a country that had new resources, techniques, and capital with which to experiment.free tube6 The literary products of the period reflected the priorities and values of the time, focusing mainly on political an
