【教材分析 The analysis of teaching materials
The unit focus on poems. The aim is to make the students learn to appreciate the beauty in poems. Thus, they need to know some basic knowledge in poetry, such as the forms of poems, the characteristics and so on. With the basis, they can try to create their own poems.
【学情分析 The analysis of the students
The students have read a lot of Chine poems, which can make them understand “rhythm, rhyme” easily. On the other hand, they are not familiar with the English poems. This is the first time that they have learnt about English poems in the textbook. They need to broaden their horizon in English poems. This lesson can give them a rough but systematic knowledge of English poems.

To learn and master the important words and phras: tick, rhyme, rhyme, convey, repetition, concrete, contradictory, diamond, flexible, pattern, cottage, sparrow, tea, salty, endless, minimum, translation, branch, eventually, transform, nurry rhyme, take it easy, run out of, make up of
Ability aim:
To get the students to have a better understanding of English poems, including the chara

hosacteristics of different forms of poems and the reason why people write poems. Emotional aim:
To cultivate the students’ appreciation of poetry and enable them to express their own feelings by writing poems.

Step 1 Lead-in 
1. Enjoy a nurry rhyme “twinkle” to find some features of nurry rhymes.
Q: This is a nurry rhyme. It’s also a form of poems. Do you think it’s easy to learn and recite? Why?
A: Nurry rhymes feature in rhyme, repetition, and strong rhythm, through which we can get a feel for the poem’s sound. 
2. some tips about how to read a poem.
补习英语
get a feel for its sound (esp. rhyme /rhythm/repetition)
get a clor understanding of what the poem is trying to convey.(theme) 
设计说明:这样的导入紧扣主题,通过让学生听并跟唱一首耳熟能详的英文诗,激发学生的求知欲和好奇心,并教会学生应从哪些方面去欣赏诗歌,为下一步的诗歌教学作了很好的铺垫。 
Step 2 While-reading
Appreciate five simple forms of poems and find their features
(1) nurry rhyme (poem A)
recommendation
While listening to the tape, feel its rhythm by clapping the beats.   
Q; What are the pairs of rhythm words? 
Can you find the repetition in it?
Listen to the tape again, thinking about a question:
Q: why does the poem u the words like mocking bird, diamond ring, billy-goat?
A: Using concrete things makes children easy to understand the father’s love. Features: rhyme; repetition; rhythm; concrete 
Theme: convey a father’s love for his baby 
(2) list poem (poem B& C)
Listen to the tape , try to find the features and the themes of list poems. 
Features: (rhyme), repetition, a long list 
Theme (poem B): describe ridiculous things.
(poem C): describe excus for losing a football match.

Listen to the tape,  try to find the theme of the two poems.         
Theme (poem D): describe a brother
(poem E): describe an aspect of summer   
The whole class summarizes its features together.
(4) haiku (poem F& G)   
A Japane form of poetry.
Listen to poem F to find out its theme.   
Theme (poem F): describe an aspect of Spring.
Using poem F as an example to prent the features of Haiku: peo
Features: 17 syllables. 5 in first line, 7 in the cond line, and 5 in the third line.    Listen to poem G, ask students to try to underling the 17 syllables in the poem and find out its theme.
Theme (poem G): describe an aspect of winter.
(5) Tang poem (poem H)
Listen to the tape to choo the title for it and find out its theme.
Q: What’s the title of the poem?
A. 送别  B. 望夫石    C. meilen游子吟    D. 楚江怀古
