13.sb acquire international fame某人获得国际声誉 注意acquire这个动词，往往表示
“（通过努力、能力、行为表现等）获得，得到，获取（知识、声誉、技能、兴趣等）；
收购某家公司、企业、股票等”，如acquire a good knowledge of English掌握好了英
语/ acquire a 获得...的声誉/ acquire the skills 获得技能；这个词的用
法比较正式，其名词形式为acquisilion.
试着翻译：1）大多数学生上大学主要是为了获得他们所选择的职业所需的知识。

modern times, computers are an esntial too）, esntial 还可以表示"本质的，根本的”,
如:the esntial difference between A and B. A和B的根本区别。课文里怎么说的，
看看：Humour has been an esntial part of human behaviour for thousands of years. 人mortality
类行为也挺有趣的，不过我们的确是人啊，人才会有幽默，humour has been an
esntial part, has been是现在完成时，说明过去到现在，幽默■直存在，嗯，不简
单。作者为了证明这一点，给你说，There is comedy in （he texts of Ancient Greece,
and medieval writings are filled with jokes.先用 there be 句型，再说 medieval writings
也是 be filled with （用 be filled with,不单调，等于 be full of） jokes.看来，comedy

这个很好的一个短语，很形象，对吧！什么样的话题可能需要humour去发挥作用
呢？ nsitive or emotive issues.什么东西比较 nsitive?什么东西比较 emotive?
nsitive的issues,比如说，-些宗教性的、政治性的，又比如一个人的长相,某人
的性格缺陷等，反正是不可以直说的，或不能说的话题，对吧。你要说，你礼貌么？
说人家怕老婆，你礼貌么？！比较nsitiveo还有emotive,想想emotion,会引起人
的情绪亢奋，或拿刀刀拼命了，哎，这些话题，呵呵，说消楚了没？但是呢,humour,
就不失为一种方式,能够throw light on nsitive or emotive issues（话题）。比较委婉
些，比如如果我们说那个女孩长相很安全，又比如说某人聪明绝顶，你要是直说，
你礼貌么？ ！ So, humour can be a proper way to help you approach some nsitive or

to modern times,这个表达很地道，就是时间拉近到现代，较clor to modern times.
有时我们还说，faslforward lo modern times,时间快速拉近到现代，其实一个道理。
be 因为 被铭记。remember不只是"记得"，还表示“铭记",
看过寻梦环游记电影吗？记得歌词吗？ Remember me, Don't let it make you cry.好，
one's ability to do something.某人做某事的能力,combine A with B,把 A 和 B 结合
起来。以后你在介绍某人的时候，是不是也可以这么说呢？如：Someone who is

19.cross out 划掉，去掉， 如： Why did you cross out the last line of your letter?disk再如：

20.The barber, not recognizing him. asked if he had a ticket to the lecture. (P8)这个句子
中的not recognizing him是非谓语动词短语，表示原因或伴随,句子的谓语是asked。
if he had a ticket to the lecture是if引导的一个宾语从句,if表示"是否"。练儿个句
子怡怡情！
