Although most studies focus on the period up to 2100, warming and a level ri are expected to continue for more than a millennium even if greenhou gas levels are stabilized. This reflects the large heat capacity of the oceans.

The greenhou effect is the ri in temperature that the Earth experiences becau certain gas in the atmosphere (water vapor, carbon dioxide, nitrous oxide, and methane, for example) trap energy from the sun. Without the gas, heat would escape back into space and Earth’s average temperature would be about 60ºF colder. Becau of how they warm our world, the gas are referred to as greenhou gas.
