Global warming is the increa in the average temperature of the Earth's near-surface air and oceans in recent decades and its projected continuation.

yadGlobal average air temperature near the Earth's surface ro 0.74 ± 0.18 °C (1.3 ± 0.32 °F) during the past century. The Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) concludes, "most of the obrved increa in globally averaged temperatures since the mid-20th century is very likely due to the obrved increa in anthropogenic greenhou gas concentrations," which leads to warming of the surface and lower atmosphere by increasing the greenhou effect. Natural phenomena such as solar variation combined wit
h volcanoes have probably had a small warming effect from pre-industrial times to 1950, but a cooling effect since 1950. The basic conclusions have been endord by at least 30 scientific societies and academies of science, including all of the national academies of science of the major industrialized countries. The American Association of Petroleum Geologists is the only scientific society that rejects the conclusions, and a few individual scientists also disagree with parts of them.
Climate models referenced by the IPCC project that global surface temperatures are likely to increa by 1.1 to 6.4 °C (2.0 to 11.5 °F) between 1990 and 2100. The range of values reflects the u of differing scenarios of future greenhou gas emissions and results of models with differences in climate nsitivity. Although most studies focus on the period up to 2100, warming and a level ri are expected to continue for more than a millennium even if greenhou gas levels are stabilized. This reflects the large heat capacity of the oceans.

global warming 或者green hou effect  温室效应,又译全球气候变暖bugout
The greenhou effect is the ri in temperature that the Earth experiences becau certain gas in the atmosphere (water vapor, carbon dioxide, nitrous oxide, and methane, for example) trap energy from the sun. Without the gas, heat would escape back into space and Earth’s average temperature would be about 60ºF colder. Becau of how they warm our world, the gas are referred to as greenhou gas.
Have you ever en a greenhou? Most greenhous look like a small glass hou. Greenhous are ud to grow plants, especially in the winter. Greenhous work by trap
ping heat from the sun. The glass panels of the greenhou let in light but keep heat from escaping. This caus the greenhou to heat up, much like the inside of a car parked in sunlight, and keeps the plants warm enough to live in the winter.
2017高考试题The Earth’s atmosphere is all around us. It is the air that we breathe. Greenhou gas in the atmosphere behave much like the glass panes in a greenhou. Sunlight enters the Earth's atmosphere, passing through the blanket of greenhou gas. As it reaches the Earth's surface, land, water, and biosphere absorb the sunlight’s energy. Once absorbed, this energy is nt back into the atmosphere. Some of the energy pass back into space, but much of it remains trapped in the atmosphere by the greenhou gas, causing our world to heat up.
The greenhou effect is important. Without the greenhou effect, the Earth would not be warm enough for humans to live. But if the greenhou effect becomes stronger, it could make the Earth warmer than usual. Even a little extra warming may cau problems for humans, plants, and animals.

(Start at 59" )This is Bill White with the VOA Special English ENVIRONMENT REPORT.
A new United Nations report says poor countries would (1)suffer the most from the effects of the warming of the Earth. The report says (2)shortages of food and water would affect some of the poorest parts of Africa, Asia and Latin America. The areas also would suffer an increa in dias. The report says small island nations are most at (3)risk. However, it warns that (4)industrial countries would also be affected.
The (5)Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change relead the report in Geneva, (6)S
witzerland. Government reprentatives from one-hundred countries (7)approved the report.
The findings were bad on rearch from hundreds of scientists around the world. They examined how global warming will affect different areas of the world.
The report (8)confirmed the increasingly strong evidence of the effect of human activities on the world’s (9)climate. It says burning (10)fossil fuels such as oil, gas and coal are mostly to(11)blame.
The fuels relea gas that trap heat in the atmosphere. An earlier report said global warming could cau the average temperature to increa almost six degrees Celsius during the next one-hundred years.
Experts say global warming may cau a levels in heavily populated coastal areas to ri. The most (12)widespread direct risk to people is from flooding and landslides. Experts say global warming may also cau an increa in dias such as malaria. Th
ey also say many plants and animals may disappear as their (13)environments are destroyed.
