The guidelines for manuscripts follow tho of Uniform Re-quirements for Manuscripts Submitted to Biomedical Journals (Annals of Internal Medicine 1997; 126:36-47). Manuscripts will be edited to conform to the individual editorial standards of Academic Radiology.
Manuscripts will be peer reviewed. The editorial board re-rves the right to reject any materials submitted and to make editorial decisions to accepted material. The editorial board is not responsible for the opinions expresd by contributors.
The Publication Agreement signed by all authors of the manu-script should be nt with the submitted manuscript. All authors must sign the agreement before the manuscript can be published.
Academic Radiology recognizes that works prepared by offic-ers or employees of the United States government as part of their government duties are in the public domain.

Manuscripts containing the results of experimental studies on human participants must disclo in the Materials and Methods c-tion whether informed connt was obtained from patients in the study after the nature of the procedure had been fully explained.
The patient’s rights to privacy should not be infringed. Identi-fying information should not be published unless it is esntial for scientific purpos and the patient gives written informed connt for publication after being shown the manuscript to be published.

1. Manuscripts, figures, and tables should be submitted on a 3½-inch computer disk prepared with Microsoft Word or other popular word-processing programs. The disk should be labeled with the first author’s last name and the name of the word-process-ing program ud. Three hard copies of the manuscript and figures should accompany the disk and should match the disk file exactly.
2. A title page should accompany each copy of the manuscript, indicating the first and last names of all authors, academic de-grees, institutional and departmental affiliations, current address of authors, a description of grants supporting the rearch, a com-plete address, telephone and fax numbers, and e-mail address (if available) for the author responsible for correspondence and re-print requests. A short running head of no more than 40 characters is needed at the foot of this page.

as the cond page of the manuscript. The abstract (of no more than 250 words) should be organized into four parate paragraphs titled Rationale and Ob-jectives, Materials and Methods, Results, and Conclusion. Three to five descriptive nouns, or short phras, that are suitable for indexing the manuscript should follow.

Original investigations, preliminary investigations, and technical reports should contain discrete Introduction, Materials and Meth-ods, Results, and Discussion ctions and should not exceed 15 manuscript pages (excluding references, tables, and figure legends). Three ts of mounted figures, no larger than 8 ´ 10 inches, must accompany the manuscript. The Editor rerves the right to limit the number of figures and tables. Figures should be numbered, the top of the figure should be indicated, and the title of the article should be abbreviated on the rever of the print. The names of the authors should not appear on the prints. Figure and table legends should be typed double-spaced on a list corresponding to the order in which they appear in the text. Previously published figures must be accompanied by written permission to reprint from the publisher and authors, with sources cited in the text.
Black-and-white figures will be printed without charge; au-thors must bear the cost of color reproduction.
Although not required, submission of figures on a 3½-inch disk, ZIP disk, or CD is acceptable. All photographic images should be scanned as 300 dpi TIFs; all line-art images should be scanned as 800–1,200 dpi TIFs. Images should be sized as clo as possible to print size: 3½ inches wide for 1 column, and 7 inches wide for 2 columns. Any image saved as .bmp, .jpeg, or .gif, a PowerPoint slide, or any other lower resolution file cannot be ud. Images embedded in word-processing programs will not be ud. Image mode for color photographic images should be CYMK; for black and white photographic images, it should be gray scale and bit map for line-art images.
