FINNISH ICE CLASSES EQUIVALENT TO CLASS NOTATIONS OF RECOGNIZED CLASSIFICATION SOCIETIES AND DOCUMENTATION REQUIRED FOR THE DETERMINATION
OF THE ICE CLASSES OF SHIPS
1Purpo of the regulations
Through the regulations the Finnish Transport Safety Agency (hereafter the
Agency) adopts the appended list of equivalences between Finnish ice class and
class notations of recognized classification societies, referred to in ction 4.2 of
the Act of 22 December 2005 on the Ice Class of Ships and Icebreaker Assis-
tance (1121/2005).
Through the regulations more detailed provisions are issued on the documenta-
tion required in ction 7.2 of the said Act for the determination of ships class.
2Equivalences of ice class granted by recognized classification
societies
If a ship has an ice class notation of a recognized classification society, it is
granted the Finnish ice class IA Super, IA, IB, IC, II or III in accordance with the
list of equivalences appended to the regulations.
A ship of ice class IA Super or IA the keel of which has been laid or which has been
at a similar stage of construction before 1 September 2003 shall, however, comply
with the requirements in ction 3.2.2 of the Agency’s Ice Class Regulations, 2010
(23.11.2010 TRAFI/31298/03.04.01.00/2010) not later than 1 January in the year
when twenty years has elapd since the year the ship was delivered.
3Documentation required for the determination of ships’ ice class If a ship does not have a class notation of a recognized classification society, the
Agency will determine the ice class of the ship, on the owner’s application, pur-
suant to ction 7.2 of the Act on the ice Class of Ships and Icebreaker Assis-
tance. For the determination of the ship’s ice class, the owner shall submit the fol-
lowing documents to the Agency:
1. A copy of the relevant ice class rules of the classification society;
2.The dimensions of the ship and the ship parameters, as defined in ction
3.2.1 of the Agency’s Ice Class Regulations, 2010;
3. A copy of the construction drawing and steel drawing of the ice belt;
4. A copy of the lines drawing of the bow;
5. A copy of the ship’s Class Certificate;
6. A copy of the ship’s Load Line Certificate;
7. A copy of the ship’s Tonnage Certificate;
8.An official document stating the engine output of the ship and its limitations, if
any;
9.Any other documentation required for the determination of the ice class.
If the ship has an ice class, granted by a recognized classification society, which is
not included in the appended list of equivalences, the Agency determines a Finnish
ice class for the ship on the owner’s application. The owner shall submit the doc-
uments listed above to the Agency for the determination of the ice class.
4 Ice class draughts and the required minimum engine output to be
indicated in the class certificate
The maximum and minimum ice class draught fore, amidships and aft and the re-
quired minimum engine output shall be indicated in the class certificate.
5 Maximum draught when assistance restrictions are in force
The draught of a ship must not exceed the maximum permissible ice class
draught when the ship is sailing to or from a Finnish port where assistance restric-
tions, requiring as a minimum ice class IC, IB or IA of ships, are in force.
6Determination of the ice class of integrated tug-barge vesls
Pursuant to ction 3.6 of the Act on the Ice Class of Ships and Icebreaker As-
sistance, a ship which lacks propulsion machinery of its own is assigned to ice
mondialclass III. A combination comprising a push-barge and a power-driven push tug
may be considered as a single power-driven ship, provided that the design of the
hulls and the coupling system allow the combination to function as a single ship
when navigating in ice.
The Agency determines the ice class of integrated tug-barge vesls on the own-
er’s application pursuant to ction 7.2 of the Act on the Ice Class of Ships and
Icebreaker Assistance. The owner shall submit the documents listed in ction 3
above to the Agency for the determination of the ice class of the combination.
specify什么意思7 Change of classification society
A ship which switches from one classification society to another retains the ice
class that it has had on the basis of the list of equivalences and the ice class doc-
uments submitted by the original classification society, provided that the ship does北大青鸟总部官网
not undergo any such structural alterations which might decisively affect its con-
struction, engine output or other properties.
A ship of ice class IA Super or IA the keel of which has been laid or which has
been at a similar stage of construction before 1 September 2003 shall, however,
comply with the requirements of ction 3.2.2 in the Agency’s Ice Class Regula-
tions of 2010 not later than 1 January in the year when twenty years has elapd
since the day the ship was delivered.
The name of the original classification society and the original class notation of the
ibeautyship as well as relevant ice class information, such as the maximum and minimum
ice class draughts and the minimum engine output corresponding to the ice class,
shall be stated in the class certificate.
1Entry into force
The regulations enter into force on 1 December 2010.
The regulations repeal the regulations on Finnish ice class equivalent to class
notations of recognized classification societies and on documents and information
required for the determination of the ice class, adopted by the Finnish Maritime
Administration on 28 March 2007 (No. 150/30/2007).
