1. frightening adj. 引起恐惧的；可怕的
The sight was frightening.那场⾯是很可怕的。
He spoke in a frightening way.他说话样⼦令⼈害怕。
⽐较：frightened“受惊，害怕的”，常表⽰某⼈内⼼感受The frightened girl was speechless.
那个⼥孩吓的连话也说不出。
The child stared at the man with frightened eyes.
那个孩⼦以惊恐的眼神看着那个男⼈。
2. ri vi. （ro , rin）上升；起来
①⽤作动词，通常不及物，不能有宾语，也不能⽤于被动态。
The river is rising after the rain.
下⾬后河⽔上涨了。
②其后若跟表“价钱”“⾼度”等名词，是⽤作状语
附和The river ro a foot in the night.
河⽔在夜间涨了⼀英尺。
③可转义表⽰“站起⾝”，“起床”：

3. spot n. 少量，点，污点

6. at hand近在⼿边；在附近；
