Dept of East Asian Languages & Cultural Studies, UCSB Li Ang －a renowed woman writer from Taiwan . Beginning her writing career at the age of sixteen, Li Ang has published nearly twenty novels and/or collections of short stories. She began to examine the intertwining of gender and politics in her later reconstruction of historical narratives after martial law was lifted in 1987. Her major novels include Garden of Riddles (1990), The Incen Burner of Lust (1997), Autobiography: A Novel (2000), and The Visi-ble Ghost (2003). In most of her works she combines critical reflections on postcolonial politics with gender politics to examine the questions of women in Taiwan.
