The MCL is a static stabilizer compod of superficial (primary) and deep (condary) portions that are restraints to valgus stress. The superficial MCL is the primary restraint to valgus stress. The proximal attachment of the superficial MCL is at the posterior aspect of the medial femoral condyle. The distal attachment is at the metaphyal attachment of the tibia, about 5 cm distal to the knee joint, lying beneath the Pes Anrinus. The deep MCL is the condary restraint to valgus stress.
