CONSTITUTION:A hydrazinodiphenyl ether compound of formula I (A and B are halogen or halogen-substituted lower alkyl; C and D are H, halogen, etc., and the substitution position of D is 2'-, 5'-, or 6'-; R<1> is H, alkyl, etc.; R<2> and R<3> are H, alkyl, phenyl, etc.; provided that at least one of R<1>, R<2> and R<3> is not H) is made to react with a nitrating reagent (e.g. nitric acid) in the prence or abnce of an inert organic solvent (e.g. nitromethane) under stirring, at -10-+50 deg.C to obtain the titled compound of formula II.
