Actually, there are mainly 3 legends

commemorating Qu Y uan, Wu Zixu, or Cao E.
分别是来纪念屈原伍子胥或曹娥
Among the three,

the most popular one is
最为人们所熟知的一个
in commemoration of Qu Y uan.

In the Warring States Period,
战国时期
the State of Qin in the west was bent

on annexing the other states,

including the state of Chu, home of Qu Y uan.
其中包括屈原的祖国楚国
Holding the cond highest office in the state,

Qu Y uan urged that

the Chu State should resist Qin

and ally with the State of Qi to the east.

to get rid of Qu Y uan.

Jin Shang was the chief minister

in the State of Chu then.

Once Qu Y uan had refud him
他有次想看一看
to look at a draft of a decree
屈原所起草的法令草案
he had been asked to draw up.
不料被其拒绝
In anger Jin Shang spread the rumor
因此靳尚怀恨在心于是他四处散布谣言
that Qu Y uan was leaking state crets.
称屈原泄露国家机密
Apart from spreading this,

Jin Shang also claimed that
靳尚还称
Qu Y uan had boasted that
屈原曾夸口
without his aid no decree could be drafted.
如果没有他该法令就无从起草
This made the Emperor of Chu feel that

Qu Y uan was belittling him.

The story reached the ears of Zhang Yi in Qin.
这件事传到了秦国张仪的耳中
So he cretly nt a large amount of

gold, silver and jewels to Chu

bijouto bribe Jin Shang and the Emperor’s favorite concubine
靳尚和楚王的一个宠妃

And finally the result was that

the Emperor of Chu banished Qu Y uan
楚王把屈原赶出都城

But the next year,

as relations between Qin and Chu worned, 秦楚关系恶化
Qu Y uan was called back
屈原又被召回
and promoted to a higher position,
并委以重任
But conspiracies against him still continued. 不过对付他的阴谋诡计依然继续
In 299 BC
公元前299年
after veral unsuccessful forays against Chu, 在几次交战失败之后
Qin invited the Emperor of Chu over,
秦国假意邀请
ostensibly for talks.
楚王入秦谈和
While however, Qu Y uan feared this was a trap 但屈原担心这是一个陷阱
and urged his Emperor not to go.
建议楚王不要前往
but the Emperor would not accept
而楚王非但不听
and even accud Qu Y uan for interfering.
还指责屈原干涉政务

the Emperor of Chu was captured by Qin troops.
楚王被秦军控制并囚禁
He died in captivity three years later.

And then Chu came under the rule

of the Emperor’s eldest son,

later known as Emperor Qing Xiang.
