《英语泛读Ⅳ》教学大纲
一、课程的性质、教学目的与任务
1. 课程的性质和教学目的
本课程是大学本科英语专业开设的必修课。本课程的教学目的是在泛读1，2，3教学基础上，进一步提高学生的阅读水平和语言技能。通过广泛的阅读，培养良好的阅读习惯，提高阅读速度与理解能力，拓展知识面，扩充词汇的认知量和接触频度，增强英语语感。
2. 任务
兴趣爱好英语要求能读懂英语国家出版的中等以上难度的文章和材料，能读懂难度相当的文学原著，掌握所读材料的主旨和大意，了解说明主旨和大意的事实和细节，既理解字面的意思，也能根据所读材料进行一定的判断和推论，既理解个别句子的意义，又理解上下文的逻辑关系，而且能对所读材料进行缩写或概括。
二、课程教学的基本要求
本课程要求能读懂一般英美报刊杂志上的社论和书评、英语国家出版的有一定难度的历史传记和文学作品；能分析上述题材文章的思想观点、语篇结构、语言特点和修辞手法。能在5分钟内速读1600词左右的文章，掌握文章的主旨和大意，理解事实和细节。
三、本课程与相关课程的关系
罗马假日英文版 英语阅读是获取信息的重要手段,可以通过阅读了解英语中地道用法,同时可以检验英语其他科目如英语词汇学习效果。同时，文章部分选自国外短篇小说等文学作品，与英美文学史、英语名著选读等课程有着密切的联系。
四、新大纲的改革说明
新大纲强调课堂教学应以学生为主体，以教师为主导，改变以往以教师为中心的教学模式。教师要在教学中充分发挥学生的能动性、创造性，培养学生的自主性、独立性和合作精神，采用灵活多样的教学方式（启发式、讨论式、发现式、研究式等），引导学生在主动积极的思维活动中获取知识、掌握学习方法、培养良好的阅读习惯和思考能力。
