Trim Model
In this tutorial, you will learn to:
Trim lots of faces in mutual mode
U trim tool to trim objective shapes
Stitch face in non-manifold mode

Step 1: Load model
sophisticatedWhen imporing a model from iges file, it will do two step preprocessing defaultly. Firstly, it clean up errors in the raw shapes from iges file. After cleanup, it will try to stitch whole model into a shell. During stitching, there provide two stitching modes: manifold stitching and non-manifold stitching. Defaultly, the stitching is in manifold mode.
This tutorial us the iges file head_ansys.igs. In the pulldown menu, go to File->Open->IGES File, choo head_ansys.iges file.

Step 2: Evaluate problems
There are lots of free edge (defaultly render as green color) in this model. Some free edges are the boundary of the model. But other free edges on the parent faces should be stitched together. We also find there four large round faces should be breaked into veral sub faces for stitching.

Step 3: Trim mutually
To break the four basic round face into veral sub faces, go to "Geom Tools"->"Trim" dialog. Choo Type as "Mutual", and area lect all faces in the view region, click "Apply" to trim lected faces mutually. This will take a litter while. After mutual trimming, go to "Geom Tools"->"Blank Entity ", in "Blank Entity " dialog, hide all "knife" shaped plannar faces. We will find only one region can't be trimmed well. Click "Unblank All" to show all faces back.

Step 4: U trim tool

To trim the left region, here we u trim tool to trim it manually. Go to "Geom Tools"->"Trim", choo Type as "Standard", lect the "knife" shaped plannar face in that region into the "Trim Tool", lect the failed trimmed face into the "Be Trimmed Entities", check "Raw Trim Tool" to recover the "knife" trim tool to a "rectangle" face, click "Apply". Now, go back to "Geom Tools"->"Blank Entity " to view trimming results, and you will find it has been trimmed well.

Step 5: Stitch in non-manifold mode
This is a non-manifold model. However, the default stitching model in IGES loading is manifold. To stitch them correctly, go to "Geom Tools"->"Stitch", check "All faces", check "Non-manifold Mode", click "Apply".
梵文翻译器Notice: Here "All faces" option means to lect all visible faces. If "Group by part" is checked, any two faces in different GParts will not be stitched together.

primadonnaAfter Step 5, there are still some problems in the model. In Fig 5, we label six regions which should be stitched into the model. Now, we should u the six edges as Trim Tool to trim relative 4 plane faces.

Go back to "Trim" dialog, choo Type as "Standard", lect one edge as Trim Tool to trim relative plannar face, e Fig 6, check on "Raw Trim Tool", click "Apply".

Now, we can mesh the model. In the right toolbar, go to "Element and Mesh" -> "AutoMesher", choo Mesh Mode as "Size", choo Mesh Type as "Mixed", click "Compute" to calculate a proper element size. When all parameters are prepared, area lect all faces in view region, or directly lect the shell item in the left Feature Tree. Click "Mesh" to preview the meshing result, click "Accept".
