Chapter IX - A Boat。
It was a great satisfaction to me to e the boat go down the stream; it was like watching one's troubles drifting away out of sight. The men went to work with a will, and I stood by, thinking how pleasant it would be to have some one to talk to, for I was feeling very lonely. Prently one of the men came up to me and asked if I could work.
"Certainly," said I, "if you will tell me what to do."。
We were soon at work. I was glad of something to do, for it took my mind off my troubles. We were digging away at the earth, when, all at once, the man who was working next to me exclaimed:。
"I say, what's this? Why, it's a boat!"。
And sure enough it was a boat! It was half buried in the earth, and had evidently been there
askmefor years. We soon had it out, and I looked at it with interest. It was a small boat, but it looked aworthy; it had been made of very strong wood, and was clinker-built. The men were as plead as I was, for it would be of great u to us.勇士之歌歌词
"It wants repairs," said one of them; "but we can soon put that right."。
We examined it carefully, and found that it was not riously damaged; we soon had it afloat, and were paddling down the stream.
"What shall we call her?" said one of the men.

"Why, she's a sort of a coffin, is she not?" said another.

This name was adopted, and the Coffin-Boat became a great favorite with us. We ud to go out fishing in her, and sometimes we would sail down the stream with the current. It was a great change from the dull life we had been leading, and our spirits ro accordingly.
Chapter X - The Raft。

One day we decided to make a raft. It was a great undertaking, but we had nothing el to do, and it would be a good means of passing the time. We gathered together all the wood we could find, and soon had a large pile of it.
We worked hard at the raft, and in due time it was finished. It was a large raft, and we had put a mast in the middle of it, with a sail made of canvas. It was quite a respectable-looking vesl.
We were very proud of our raft, and one day we took it out on the stream. There was a light wind blowing, and we hoisted the sail. The raft sailed beautifully, and we were delighted with it.
As we were sailing along, we suddenly heard a noi which sounded like the roaring of a lion. We looked round, and saw that the stream was narrowing, and that the water was flowing much more quickly. We knew that we were approaching a waterfall, and we were in great danger.
We quickly lowered the sail, and tried to paddle away from the danger. But it was too late; we were carried down by the current, and in a moment we were over the fall.
It was a terrible experience; we were dashed against the rocks and buffeted by the waves. All at once the raft struck against a rock, and we were thrown into the water. I could remember nothing more.
