appear at /in /from ...(prep.) 出现...

① appear + adj. 看起来

【辨析】appear, em, look的区别
职务英文① 三者均为连系动词，均可后接形容词、名词、不定式作表语：
-- He looks [ems, appears] honest.
-- He looks [ems, appears] an honest man.
-- He looks [ems, appears] to be honest.
-- He looks [ems, appears] to be an honest man.
② look, em 之后可以接介词 like, 但 appear 之后不能：
-- He looks [ems] like a fool. 他看起来像个大傻瓜。
③ 三者均可后接不定式，但 look 之后一般只限于 to be：
-- He ems [appears, looks] to be tired. 他好像很累了。
-- He ems [appears] to laugh at us. 他好像在笑我们。
④ 三者均可用于 it 开头的句子，但look 之后常接 as if (as though)引导的从句，appear之后通常接that引导的从句，em 之后则可接that和as if (as though)引导的从句：
-- It looks [ems] as if you’re right. 好像你是对的。
-- It ems [appears] that he is ill. 他似乎病了。
⑤ 在there be开头的句子里，可用em / appear, 一般不用 look：
-- There ems [appears] to be something the matter with her. 她好像出了什么事似的。

My aunt Jennifer is an actress. She must be at least thirty-five years old.In spite of this, she often appears on the stage as a young girl. Jennifer will have to take part in a new play soon. This time, she will be a girl of venteen. In the play, she must appear in a brig
ht red dress and long black stockings. Last year, in another play she had to wear short sock and a bright, orange-coloured dress. If anyone ever asks her how old she is, she always answers, 'Darling, it must be terrible to be grown up!'

⑴ 以-ess结尾的是女性；以-or/-er结尾的是男性。
act n. 行为、行动、法案；v. 行动、表现、表演
actor n. 男演员；actress n. 女演员; action n. 行动；activity n. 活动；active adj. 积极的、忙碌的；
actual adj. 真实的、实际的、真正的；actually adv. 的确、事实上
⑵ must + v. 原形 表示推测，“一定、可能”
-- She must be a model.
-- She must be fifteen years old. 她很可能五岁
-- She must be at most fifteen years old. 她最多十五
⑶ at least 至少；at most 至多
at first 首先；at last 最后；
at best 最有可能、充其量；at worst 最坏的情况、最差
⑷ 年龄的两种表示方法：浇水的英文
① 数字+years old，作表语thirty-five years old
② 数字+-year-old，作定语my four-year-old daughter

⑴ in spite of + n. /pron. 表示的感觉更严谨，侧重客观上的意识；
despite + n./短语. 表示的感觉更随意，侧重主观上的意识。
although /though + 句子

-- Despite her age, she often appears on the stage as a young girl.
-- Although she is thirty-five, she often appears on the stage as a young girl.
