A Critical Review of So that No Body Has to Go to School if They Don’t Want to
By Roger Sipher
Introduction
In this essay, the author prents the problem that the American mandatory –attendance laws force students who do not want to study to be in school and the solution to abolish the law, as he considers, will be more dividends. This written work will review the essay and his argument and then prent my evaluation on it, not only the merits of his writing but also his point s of view.
Summary
The author firstly mentions the decline that the compulsory –attendance law has forced many to go to school who do not really want to .and the solution for the trouble is to abolish this law
The conquences of the abolishment are much better. First, this solution will not end up public education becau they will legalize it. And condly there is no contradiction between the number of the students forced by the law and the good points of repeal it. Thirdly, the private schools and public schools can be freer to dismiss students who are disqualified. Fourthly, the solution will probably eliminate the conventional ideologies among the disqualified students. Moreover, he illustrates six good points of abolishing the laws the are the alertness to the students about school,;stopping pollute the learning environment.; the accurateness of grades showing their work at school; the increasing the public esteem; the elementary schools’ further development; the saving of the education costs. At last he makes a conclusion encouraging the solution.
Author’s Argument
As to this essay, the author’s arguments is very much clear. The purpo of writing it is to, I think, is to stand by the abolishment of the mandatory-attendance law. Continuously, he analyzes the influences of the reform from three perspectives: public education, the abolishment and he conventional education, and dismissing students. in this way he try to attract our agreement on it. At last, the author illustrates specifically, the six merits about the reform, making it more convincing.
Evaluation
From the essay, I can draw a conclusion that the author strongly stand by the abolishment becau in lateral part of it, he supports himlf in various perspectives “This will not end public education ” ; there are not direct side effects about the reform. And the dismissing of students can help not only school and recalcitrant students to find a better way to handle the education. This part are not convincing to me becau the statements are mot specific for me to understand it clearly
Subquently, the author lists the benefits of the abolishment which I can not agree more. From my experiences and understanding ability, I can fully got the author’s points of view for example, this solution can alert the students thinking that school is a rious place and can not pollute the atmosphere.
Now I am considering whether the reform can be adopted in China. As for me, I do not agree with it due to specific social conditions. In American, the culture and education has development has been to a higher lever. The economic fundamentals can help the students who are abnt from schools acquire the knowledge from other ways but as we can e, China is still a developing country, there must be a law to make sure that all the students have to go to school for basic knowledge rvicing the development of our country. And there are so many people who are illiterate. So we cant not adopt this reform although there are still many students do not go to school.
Conclusion
This review has briefly analyzed the author’s idea from different ways. He strongly believ
e that the abolishment of it can bring benefits to the whole America, but I really confud that the structure of his essay in details I think it is the weakness of the writing.
