Back to freestyle skiing, China's Xu Mengtao claimed a long-awaited gold medal in Monday night's Women's Aerials Final, after topping the standings with an impressive 108.61 points.
The 31-year-old Xu pushes hard to win the host nation's first Winter Olympics gold in this event, after helping cure silver in last week's Mixed Team Aerials. Her masterful effort in the six-woman final dethrones defending champion Hanna Huskova of Belarus, while the USA's Megan Nick takes bronze.
Xu's victory as a long time coming for the 2014 silver medalist, who has also captured multiple world titles and World Cup trophies, and now completes her resume with Olympic gold.“I am number one. We have won. I have finally won at home. I'm just super excited. This is the first gold medal by China in women's aerials and it's just super cool.I just wanted to do the best tricks I can do and I did it and that was all.”
