2.1.3 Colloquial Words
Colloquial words are mostly ud in conversational and writing of    a conversational style, like plays, dialogues in novels, and personal letters. They are marked colloq, or informal in dictionaries. The following ntences illustrate the difference between learned, the common and the colloquial words:
(1)Feeling fatigued, Tom retired early.
(2)Tom went to bed becau he felt tired.
(3)Tom felt so dog-tired he hit the sack so

Some common words become colloquial after transference of meaning: spoon,hedgehog, jay, juice, halfbaked. Some common words by adding demunitive suffix become colloquial words:granny, daddy, fatty, doggy, birdie, booklet, lassie.

2.1.4 Archaic words
Archaic words are words no longer in common u, although retrained for special purpo. They are sometimes employed in poetry, bussiness letters, legal documents, religious speeches and pro. Archaic words often appeal in leagal works, for example:

The speaker tries to sound dignified by using the archaic words “surpasth” .
Archaic words occassionally appear in newspapers and magzines, for one strange words among many familiar words can draw reader’s attention. They also sound more graceful.
