摘要
美国当代作家伊丽莎白·斯特劳特凭借《奥丽芙·基特里奇》一书获得2009年普利策小说奖。该书以缅因州克劳斯比镇为背景，由13个短篇组成，围绕着爱与救赎的主题展开叙述，描述了小镇数学教师奥丽芙的的跌宕起伏的一生，体现出在时代抑郁的背景下女性的独立生活。本论文将从人物形象，小说内容，时代背景，人物冲突，话语语调，作者的叙述角度去窥探该作品中的女主的双重性格以及造成这样的原因。通过分析作品中的人物情节，以期关照现实生活重压下小人物的心理状态与生存之路，去发现该作品中的女性独立的主题，去探索作品表面下隐藏的热切地希望和对生命的渴望。由于奥丽芙独立的性格与她对自己真实爱情的追求和她的女性主义思想，使得她在这部作品中表现相对独特。
