1. But Does the Dog Know the Proverb?
One day Tom and his father went out for a walk. Suddenly they saw a big black dog. The dog began to bark. Tom was afraid. He wanted to run home. His father said: “Don’t be afraid, Tom. Don’t you know the proverb: ‘A barking dog does not bite’?”
“Oh, yes,” said Tom. “I know the proverb, you know the proverb, but does the dog know the proverb?”
2. Blessing
汤面做法Hank, a boy of five years old, and his father, mother and brother went to the forest to work. Suddenly it rained. But they only brought one rain cape.
形式逻辑The father gave the rain cape to the mother, the mother to the brother and the brother to Hank.
Hank asked, “Why did Daddy gave it to Mama, Mama to Brother and Brother to me?”
The father answered with a smile, “Becau Daddy is stronger than Mama, Mama stronger than Brother and Brother stronger than you. All of us will protect the weaker.”
Hank looked around, ran over and put the rain cape on a fragile flower swaying in the rain.
3. A Greedy Dog
Once a dog got a piece of meat. “What a nice dinner I shall have!” he thought.
He came to a small river. He looked into the water. There was another dog with another piece of meat.
“I shall take that meat too,” he said.
He opened his mouth to bark. And then he jumped into the water, but he couldn’t find the dog. The greedy dog lost his nice dinner.

4. The tiger and the Monkey
A long time ago, there lived a tiger in the forest. Every night he would eat one animal for his dinner. All the other animals hated him very much. They wanted to kill him.
One day the tiger was very hungry. He saw a monkey and said, “I’m hungry, Monkey. Go to the village and bring me a pig.”
“Oh, Tiger,” cried the monkey, “I can’t do that. Yesterday another tiger came to our village. He told me not to bring you anything.”

“What?” cried the Tiger. “Show me that tiger. I’ll speak to him.”
“Come with me,” said the monkey. He took the tiger to a river. “Now, look into the river,” said the monkey. “Can you e him? He has a very big head, white teeth and large green eyes. He looks like you.”
“Yes, I do,” cried the tiger. “I shall eat him up.”
With the words, the tiger jumped into the river and never came out again.
5. The Bear-Shooting Old Man开卷未必有益
Old Mr Black loved shooting bears, but his eyes were not good any more. Several times he nearly shot people instead of bears, so his friends were always very careful when they went out shooting with him.
One day a young friend of his wanted to play a joke, so he got a big piece of white paper and wrote on it in very big letters “I AM NOT A BEAR”. Then he tied it to his back and went off. His friends saw it and laughed a lot.
But it did not save him. After a few minutes Mr. Black shot at him and knocked his hat off.
The young man was frightened and angry. “Didn’t you e this piece of paper?” he shouted to Mr Black. “Yes, I did,” said Mr Black. Then he went nearer, looked carefully at the paper and said, “Oh, I am very sorry. I did not e the word NOT.”
6. The Will
There was an old man who had three sons and venteen hors. “I’ve written my will,” he told his sons. “I’m going to leave my hors to the three of you. But you must share them as my will.”
The old man died. The will was opened. “To my three sons, I leave my venteen hors. My eldest son shall take a half. My cond son shall take a third. My youngest son shall take a ninth. Shed no blood. Do not kill. You must obey your father’s will.”

The three sons were puzzled. At school, they had been well-taught, but not so well that they could divide venteen by two, venteen by three, venteen by nine, and still obey their father’s will.
