The School of Electrical and Electronic Engineering at The
University of Manchester is one of the largest and most successful schools of this discipline in the UK.
Our student population exceeds 450 undergraduates and 350 postgraduates. Currently, we have
58 members of academic staff working in specialist rearch clusters focusing on: control systems,
electrical energy and power systems, microelectronics and nanostructures, microwave and communications engineering, power conversion and nsing, imaging and signal processing.
Well-resourced, cutting-edge rearch
Each rearch area has excellent, well-equipped
laboratories, veral of which have been established or refurbished by grants and donations, including some from industry. Our industrial partners include National Grid, Rolls-Royce, Syngenta, Agilent Technologies and Oxford Instruments, amongst many others.
Our overriding rearch aim is to provide an
environment where world-leading fundamental and applications-oriented rearch is conducted in the broad and fast-moving field of electrical and electronic engineering. Wherever appropriate,
rearch is carried out by working in partnership with industry, national facilities and national and international university groups, or by pursuing commercial exploitation.
We continue to recogni the changing priorities within our discipline, which are influenced by, and influence in turn, society, government (UK and EU)and commerce – and we remain responsive to them.

The RAE 2008 measured the quality of rearch
conducted in universities and other higher education institutions in the UK against international standards of excellence. Our School confirmed its position at the forefront of rearch in this subject area by being ranked cond in the UK in terms of rearch quality,with over 70% of our rearch output assd as internationally excellent or world leading, confirming our world class rearch re
putation.
