ABSORBENCY OF BLEACHED TEXTILES

1.Purpo and Scope.
Absorbency is one of veral factors that determines the suitability of a fabric for a particular u, as in the ca of gauze or toweling. It is important in fabrics that are to be dyed, since the completeness and uniformity of the dyeing are dependent upon absorbency. Where fabrics are to be given resin or other specialized finishes, absorbency is a factor to be considered. Wettability or absorbency of textile fabrics or yarns can be determined by this test method.
2.Principle.
A drop of water is allowed to fall from a fixed height onto a taut surface of a test specimen. The time required for the specular reflection of the water drop to disappear is measured and recorded as wetting time.
3.Apparatus.

4.Specimen Preparation.
通常所说的血型是指4.1Cut one specimen 7 X 7″ (18 X 18cm) from the original, 3HL washed or dry cleaned samples. Refer to Appendix 12 (Appendix12.doc) for specific wash conditions. Do not hand iron washed specimens. Note, dry cleaned specimens are presd after each dry clean cycle.
4.2Condition specimens prior to testing. Refer to conditioning for testing (Appendix10.doc).

5.Procedure.
5.1Conduct the test in the standard atmosphere.
5.2Mount the specimen backside up in the embroidery hoop so that the surface is free of wrinkles, but without distorting the structure of the material.
5.3Place the hoop flat on work surface.
5.4Fill dropper with distilled water.
5.Procedure – continued.
5.5Place the dropper tip approximately .375 ″ (1.0 ± 0.1cm) from the surface of the fabric in the hoop.
5.6Allow one drop of distilled water at 70 ± 5 F (21 ± 3 C) to fall on the cloth.

5.7Using a stopwatch, measure the time required, up to 60 conds maximum, for the surface of the liquid to lo its specular reflectance. This point is determined by having the hoop between the obrver and a source of light – such as a window or laboratory spotlight - at such an angle that the specular reflectance of light from the surface of the flattened drop can be plainly en. As the drop is gradually absorbed, the area of this tiny mirror diminishes and finally vanishes entirely, leaving only a dull wet spot. At this instant the stopwatch is stopped and the elapd time is recorded. When the wetting time exceeds 60 conds, 60+ conds should be recorded.
5.8Repeat procedure for a total of five times.

Average the five readings. The shorter the average time, the more absorbent is the textile. Five conds or less is generally considered to reprent adequate absorbency.
