III) KTL COATING (ELECTROLYTIC PAINT DEPOSITS ON STEEL OR ALUMINIUM)
III.1) PRINCIPLE
The paint ud shall be a primary cationic, which is a dispersion of organic molecules and mineral pigments in an aqueous solution. If one applies a voltage of 200 to 350 VDC between the parts immerd in the cathode and the electrolysis cells rving as anodes, the positively (+) charged organic molecules move to the cathode along with the mineral pigments, such that the molecules and pigments are deposited simultaneously on the negatively (-) charged parts. Conquently, the parts are covered with a very uniform paint film that has to be rind and polymerid.

The process includes the following operations:
- Shot blasting (e note)

Note: The shot-blasting step shall be defined and be included in the manufacturing process for all the parts from, casting process (aluminium, iron) and forging process.
A stone blasting step shall be defined and included in the manufacturing process for all the parts from cutting stamping and lar process.
The stone-blasting step for big or/and heavy part from cutting, lar cutting is replaced by the shot-blasting.
The goal is the suppress of any sharp angle, and any dirt from the process, and to get a reproductive quality level.

APPLICATIONS
The cataphoresis paint can be applied to all conductive metals: steel, copper alloys, aluminium alloys, iron, zinc and alloys (zamack).
The paint layer’s homogeneity is particularly well suited for the following parts:

III.2) COATING CHARACTERISTICS
APPEARANCE

- Colour defects: floating, frosting, marbling, streaking, hazing, mottling, etc.
- Superficial finish defects: bubbling, curling, checking, blistering, cracking, rippling, sinkage, orange peel, etc.
- Defects following a poor application: running, draping, sagging, exfoliation, wrinkling, etc.

III.3) TESTING AND EVALUATION CRITERIA
APPEARANCE
The coating’s appearance shall be controlled visually.
COATING THICKNESS
Thickness shall be measured by the magnetic method.
CORROSION RESISTANCE
a)Adherence shall be checked by the gripping test according to the standard NF EN ISO 2409.
Minimum level AD0
b)According to standard ISO 9227, the resistance to salt spray shall be 500 hours on ridges and
1000 hours on flat surfaces without the appearance of red rust.
Evaluation criteria according to EN ISO 4628 :
. Rusting rate : Ri0
. Blistering rate : 0(S0)
. Propagation at cracks : 2mm

IV.1) PRINCIPLE
The treatment is intended to increa the product’s resistance to chemical attacks. It involves performing a cataphoresis and then applying a polyester or polyurethane bad paint according to the specify by the paint supplier.

In order to approve a new product or process, this complete t of tests must be performed, ie :
