CONSTITUTION:In a printer wherein horizontal printing is conducted by a thermal head 11 on a printing paper t on a horizontal platen 2a, reels 24, 25 are dispod horizontally, a carbon ribbon 10a is let out from the reel 24, is twisted by 90 deg. between guide rollers R8, R9, is supplied to the front face of the head 11, is again twisted by 90 deg. between guide rollers R10, R11, and is taken up by the reel 25. When printing by moving the head 11 in the direction of an arrow C, a taking-up operation for the ribbon 10a is stopped, and when the head 11 is moved in the direction of an arrow D, the ribbon 10a is taken up by an amount corresponding to the displacement of the head 11.
